    The Oscars...

OK, first a confession: I haven't seen any of the movies, and I didn't watch the Oscars. But this is America, and that doesn't keep me from throwing in my .02.

I was pulling for Mickey Rourke for Best Actor. I really wanted to see his acceptance speech (on YouTube, of course), with the little chihuahua and the champagne bottle. Of course they gave to another insufferable narcissistic p***k. Oh well. Kate Winslet should of course win her category, given that she is a gorgeous woman. The premise of that movie sucks, if you ask me, but so what? I would watch her read the phone book. Preferably unclothed.

I'm not too crazy about giving the BSA to a deceased actor, even though I heard Ledger's performance was "unsettling". The other noms didn't seem too strong to me, so I guess this'll do. For the other BSA, I give Penelope 2 thumbs up! I love her, with her little accent and big eyes. I would also vote for Marisa Tomei anytime!

Best Picture: well, if you're going with "Slumdog" all the way, might as well give it this one. The other movies sound pretty darn boring. As for score, well from what I've heard "Slumdog" rocks--love that world music stuff.

I don't have any opinion about the other categories, except to say that I'm upset "Hellboy 2" didn't win for Best Makeup.

Any other ill-informed thoughts about the Oscars?
    Jeff

Love Anne Hathaway on the stage and her cute smile and neat voice. Liked Jackman's totally wild opening - and boy does he have a strong voice!

Did you notice they didn't show clips for the supporting actress award? a botch-up rather than bias, i guess.

the only movie i managed to watch (as yet) was slumdog; liked it, but for me personally, Oscars should be real special awards, and somehow SDM seemed too pat, too fairy-tale. But I admit - take a look around - almost all the other contenders were really depressing or downbeat (at least in their plots, I am sure the movies will be appropriately inspiring when I get to watch them). In these times, fairy-tales work better.

I was disappointed the ladies wore demure clothes in general. Where's Cher when we need her ?

I have heard the Oscars called the "Annual orgy of self-congratulatory excess".
      perhaps appropriate.

Well, every industry and most businesses have their awards and presentations. These folks just have the ducats to waste do it up real big and let everyone else sitting in their verge-of-foreclosure homes watch.

I only watched up to the award for BSA. Figured Ledger was a shoe-in, but I was greatly disappointed that not one person acknowledged the fact that he just might have been there to accept the award himself, had he not stupidly ended his own life by overdosing on drugs.

As it was I believe the inferred message is, "Hey, folks! It doesn't matter if you take your own life or OD and die... we'll remember and love you, provided you entertained us first."

But... that's just me. Other than that it was better than watching HGTV.

They gave out Oscars? Hmmmm... No interest in watching them at all. Didn't.
