    Bad, Bad Trade

Plow planes are typically worth a small fortune. I wonder what this CL trader is thinking: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/bar/1037501063.html

I wouldn't trade any tool for a shoe rack no matter what it was.

Lets see he has a shoe rack. He is obviously a tool user. Why does he not just rebuild the stupid thing using longer vertical sections. Sheesh.

Some woman will see that and think "Just what I need". and head out to the shop to grab a plane or two for trading.

I think 'pearls for swine'. He's not aware of the value of what he's asking, so it'd be wasted with him. Jackellis, please don't be tempted by that rack !

In the Dumb-and-dumber style, very likely he's thinking of fixing that rack using that very same plane, and he's gonna wake up only after a barter's done (hey, waittaminnit, how do i fix the rack now that i gave that away )!

edit : never seen a 'barter' section on CL before; wonder how well that goes; many of the offers seem to be too narrow to be helpful. 'Landscaping for photography'?

Oh I don't know about that... got a couple stinkers from Harbor Freight that I'd consider.

I am sure there is some widow out there or desk jockey who is the only living relative of a recently deceased woodworker who would get taken. But they wouldn't be looking 'there' for a shoe rack or to get rid of some 'strange' tool.

Probably a few of those planes are left behind to family in which the following quote on "wood" could similarly apply: "When I die, I hope my wife doesn't sell the wood for the price that I told her I bought it for."

In a related topic, if you are ever in Pittsburgh, go to the Heinz History Center down town.

They have an extensive collection of old planes on display.

This is not my picture, but it shows the case where the planes are - some really neat stuff in there.
