8 for the price of 12.

Well the executives at Pepsi Co. have come up with a great plan
to increase profits. They are now selling 8 packs instead of 12 packs.
Kicker is the 8 packs sell for the same price a 12 pack used to.
They must think that their former customers are complete idiots.

I've noticed a lot of this type of stuff going on over the past year or so, but none as blatant as this. Ice cream bins are tapered to appear a similar size but have smaller volume -- that's the most upsetting . Yogurt containers are a bit smaller. Boxes are smaller -- stuff like that. They say something like "New look; same great taste" but what they leave out is "less product; same price!"

My 40 pound bag of dog food now weighs 35 pounds. Price is still the same, though.

Happens all the time, just not so obvious. The "New & Improved" toothpaste at 3.5 oz vs. the 4.0 oz of the "Old and Nasty"!

Ice cream is sold as 1.5 qt. It used to be a half gallon. Oh yeah and it now costs a bunch more.

I saw something the other day and thought it was a decent price until I noticed the bag was 10% smaller.

Kingsford Charcoal changed their bags from 24lb to 21.6 a while back, and claimed that the new charcoal had longer burn times, burned hotter and was more efficient so you were actually getting more for your money. Riiiiiiight. I am glad I only use lump!

I'm glad this topic was posted.
I too am pissed about this. First it was Dannon Yogurt going from 8oz to the new "serving size" which is 6 oz. Then it moved to ice cream 1/2 gallon to 1.75 quarts to the new new 1.5 quart size.
Tropicana OJ is now 57 oz vs. 64 oz.
I told the wife that we will not buy any product from a company that has changed its size and kept the price the same. We will gladly pay more if the company wants to raise prices as the cost of production may have risen. Just yesterday she brings home Classico Pasta Sauce, nice product for a quick meal, I look at the jar and say "this looks smaller". I log onto their website and their graphics still shows the larger size (only 2 ozs less).
We would buy 1-2 jars a week, no more...
I hope they track sales figures as they make these changes. And I know they say that consumers would rather the price stay the same and the amount lessen. Not this consumer.

I doubt that sales figures matter. Price does, and most consumers do not notice smaller sizes. I'd rather pay a bit more, too, but this is all marketing.

Just like many products ending in 99 cents.

Pepsi does it too. It's happening all over, and has been for at least the last year.

This downsizing the product with the same old price has been going on for at least the last 6 or 7 years. Given that there is no alternative choice if you want that BRAND product you have to pony up. I'm not that fussy. If I see a downsized product that I like but with the same price as the larger bag/box/bottle I'm more than happy to throw it back on the shelf and change to something else, make it myself from scratch or use another brands similar product. I'm all for companies that believe that the customer comes first and is not out to rip them off.

If I may, air weighs almost nothing in comparison to the actual product in the bag. This air in the bag helps keep your chips from being a bunch of very small smashed chips.
