Found this poking around the news tonight... I really wish I hadn't. I'm sure you guys from TX have already heard about it.

What on Earth would cause human beings to do such a thing???

These people need to understand what they put this child through, and I'd be more than happy to show them, given 5 minutes alone with them. I do not think I have ever been madder in my entire life!

It is a terrible situation! There are no words that are appropriate for this site to describe the "proper" treatment of those folks!

Lets bring back public punishment. You know, from the "ye old days", when criminals were displayed in the streets. But rather, convicted criminals sentenced to death would be at the hands of the public. They would be stick and stoned until dead. They would have some time to contemplate the punishment. This may deter crimes like that. It sure would be good for "Pay For View". Proceeds could go to victims family or charity.

I have my fingers in my ears when it's said that it's not "humane". The crime sure wasn't.

My oldest son did some time on drug related charges. He said the stories of inmate abuse at the hands of other prisoners for crimes such as this are true. A life or any long sentence may not be very long for these two.

For some crimes I don't think there can be a punishment that is inhumane enough.

Actually I am of the mind that is is fortunate. From what I've read Death Row inmates are treated fairly well by prison standards. They have their own cell on a special cell block, etc. Life in the general population will be MUCH rougher for these two and most likely will have the same result as the death penalty, it will just be quicker and cheaper.

Did it cross anyone elses mind as odd that, given the only people in the room at the time of the death were the mother and stepfather, there is such a dramatic account of what happened and what was said- and that it's perfectly crafted to tug at the jury's heartstrings and show the mother to be evil incarnate?

Not saying that evil did not happen, it clearly did, but some of this story smacks of creative embelishment.

Well, I don't know that the prosecutor would be willing to invent the story. I thought a more likely scenario is that the mother or step-father spilled the little tidbit during questioning.

My FIL, who was a court officer in Brooklyn Criminal court for 25 years came up with this rather intelligent way of dealing with re-ofenders and those foound guilty of such unspeakable acts.

Take a state which on one really cares about (Rhode Island, for instance). Relocate all those healthy "wonderful citizens" there, feed them really good healthy food, and give them a just about all the comforts of life, and then…






…Use them all for spare parts for organ transplants.

Nifty solution, Eh.
