For me it would have to be Dave Brubeck's Time Out or Time Further Out. I can get Unsquare Dance from Time Further Out stuck in my head for weeks and still enjoy it.

A bit off topic but we had a chance to see Brubeck in concert a couple of years ago. It was fun watching people trying to clap along to Unsquare Dance.

That is a tough call, and I would have a hard time picking between Revolver and the Joshua Tree. I would probably end up with Revolver, because while I love U2, I just can't pick them over the Beatles.

I'd want to bring "Help". If I didn't have a match, maybe "light my fire." But with my luck, I'd get stuck with Dr. Demento's "Gilligan's Island" sung to the Stairway to Heaven music.

For runners up in various categories:

Rock--Beatles' White Album--not their best "album" but great songs of all different types that express each of their songwriting personalities exceptionally well. Some of my favorite songs as well. Other runners-up--Sticky Fingers or Exile on Main Street by the Stones, U2's Achtung Baby, REM's Life's Rich Pageant, Dylan's Bringing It All Back Home or Highway 61 Revisited.

Country--Townes van Zandt's The Late Great Townes Van Zandt, Willie Nelson's Red-Headed Stranger or Starlight, Emmylou Harris' Red Dirt Girl.

Jazz--Coltrane's Crescent, Joe Pass' Virtuoso 1-3.

Classical--too many to mention, but Jussi Bjorling collection would be great, Beethoven's 9th, Ashkenazy recording of Chopin, a bunch of great Vladimir Horowitz recordings.

Rap--would make me want to swim off island until sharks ate me.

That Eagle's Greatest hits are great, and so was The Beatles Hey Jude album, but, and this might seem odd for someone whose first purchased 8-track was Ironbutterfly's Enna Gadda Da Vita, I would probably choose a Bethoven CD. There is something about Classical Music that can up lift my spirits, and I can listen to it over and over. I don't know if I could do the same thing with the Eagles or Beetles.

Y'all have some interesting choices. I love Elvis C., and I like that album, but I don't know if I'd pick it for a DID. My choice would be Armed Forces, the first Elvis album I bought and still my favorite.

I haven't thought about 10cc since I was 16, so I'm surprised about that one, but maybe I'll have to give it a listen. I remember that when a certain girl had a crush on me and I really didn't want to date her, but didn't know how to tell her, I would find myself humming, "I'm not in love, so don't forget it"...

Billy Joel's Greatest Hits (2 disc set). If not that, Peter Gabriel: Hit (2 disc set). If not that U2, Best of (any of the 2-disc sets). If not THAT, VAST, either Music for People or the self-titled album. If not that, Queen: Greatest Hits (2-disc set). If not that.... I dunno...

Well, that's on "Live and let Live" (and I must admit I like the live version), but the rest of that album contains some pretty outstanding progressive rock (Waterfall, Feel the Benefit) and some fun and creative pieces (I'm Mandy, fly me etc.). I always thought their studio albums were a tad dry, but this live album is one of those hidden gems. Maybe a bit inaccesible at first and not everybody's cup of tea, but it grows on you. I think they said it best at the end of the (awesome) "Feel the Benefit": "Whooh, that was fantastic! I think the roff just came off, and I can see the stars..." If you like progressive rock, this one is worth checking out.
