Learned a lesson at Lowes yesterday

This really doesn't belong in the Bargains Forum so I figured I would put it here. It's not a gloat either, just trying to give a heads up to you guys.

I was in Lowes yesterday & noticed that they had the DELTA DP300L 12-Inch TwinLaser Crosshair Drill Press on clearance for $159, regular price was $189. I asked a Lowes associate if they had any more since the only one I saw was the display. He said that was the last one but I could have it if I wanted. I was in there just wasting time & really didn't need another DP since I already have a 17" DP.

Before I knew it the manager was standing beside me telling me I could have it for $100. Still not wanting another DP, I told him there was no telling what was missing to which he replied $80, final offer. I tried to counter with $60 but he stood firm. The sales associate took me to the side & said the only thing it was missing was the chuck key & he would throw one in for the heck of it. I figured I couldn't let the deal slip by so I bought it.

Lesson learned: If a clearance item is the last one they have, ask for the manager & barter a better deal than the clearance price.

That definitely works. We were looking for one of those home gyms and stopped in Sports Authority. Like your experience, the one we wanted wasn't in stock except for the floor model. It was one of those Weider 2 seat deals with the cables and the stacked weights.

It was listed for around $500, and the guy said we could have it for $120. We would have to disassemble part of it to get it into my van, and it didn't have an owners manual.

We get to the register, and the cashier has some discussion with some bigwig hanging around up front. When she ran it through the scanner and the price showed on the screen it read: $80.

It was a P.A.R. (pay and run). LOML and I just had one of those looks on our faces, the one with our eyebrows up.

Wish it were always true... Just asked the manager at my Lowes if I could have the Bosch 10.8 battery he had on his clearance table for the same price they had on them at the store 20 miles north... Not only did he give me an arrogant "No way", he told me I was lucky he didn't mark it UP! I told him he could take his attitude and shove it...

I have seen those for $25 at some stores and regular price at others. It just must be the "luck of the draw"!

I don't see good deals at the local lowes and have not had luck asking either...

When I bought my Skil 30 pc carbide router bit set (I know a cheapie, but not the point of the matter) it listed at something like $119.00, the box it was in had an acrylic face / display panel that was busted. The tool dept manager dumped the price to $75.00 for me, and I grabbed it, and replaced the acrylic window for $.50, So for $75.50 I got a brand new 30 piece router bit set. Not a screaming deal, but the best I knew of at the time...

Yup. His "clearance price" was $45, other Lowes had them at $20. That's OK, I have begun stopping in at Lowes on a regular basis, just to tell that arrogant SOB that I'm on my way to Home Depot...

There is a special place for these type of people. Standing on the side of the road, with their hood up, in the bitter cold, as we slow down honking the horn, waving & smiling as we drive on past them.

I remember when the Delta Belt/ disc sander was on clearance, and some of the members posted receipts on the board. It was from antoehr state, but I still managed to get the manager to price match it here.

However, he definitely acted as if I was stealing the item. Asked if "you guys go around buying the stuff up", as if I'm part of some sort of retail price-comparing syndicate...

But I have to say- I was definitely giddy on my way out the door!

When I bought my BT3000, the only one they had was the display model. I got a good deal on it. I know the odds against this are great, but I got it home, and everything was set up right. Didn't even have to make adjustments! Must have been set up by a Ryobi rep.

Around here you would not be able to even find a manager to speak to. And the sales associate wouldn't know what a chuck key is, much less give you one.
