After almost 90 hours of below zero temps. I'm willing to believe almost anything.

I could swear I saw a chickadee huddling under a cat this morning.

It is too cold when the woodstove can't keep the house at 68 by itself. I grew up in NY so I've been through cold weather. I live here now so I don't have to go through that again. Why anybody would want to live in a place with 90hrs of below 0 temps is beyond me.

Those of us who are lucky enough to live up here don't really mind when the temperature does not go above zero for days at a time. Of course we will complain about it , especially the 10-day below-zero run we had just before the present "pineapple express" arrived at the beginning of this week.

But where else can you have moose bed down in your yard, see Denali (Mt. McKinley) but not Russia , catch 50 pound salmon routinely, and see the Northern Lights regularly.

          Stay warm. Regards, Steve

I am DEFINATELY working on insulating the garage doors some more this weekend. Maybe even add a gasket / seal around the doors. This is crazy cold, and you guys make me think I'm toasty...

I might just have to hook up the Portable Buddy to the 20LB propane tank... Wild stuff these days... Global warming my fanny...

Be happy there are people willing to live in those conditions. If the didn't our more temprate area would have at lot more people. I will stay in sunny California. I have never done below zero and have not wish to.

                Tom,

I'm going to be the bigger man and will be the first to offer to trade places with you for a while.

Far be for me to allow you to suffer through life not experiencing the true joy of your eyes freezing together from the tears of streaming down your face when you stand beside your car which has turned into something that looks like a coloured block of ice.

Far be it for me to deny you the shear pleasure of having your nostrils freeze together while walking to work.

I wouldn't do this for just anybody and the offer is only available for another four months so hurry, operators are standing by. If you call now, I can toss in a genuine Canadian touque!!

                Let me, help you

                Don

                  Larry,

I am actually counting on the 95 degree summer days w/95% humidity to keep the riff-raff out. I'd still much rather deal with heat than -0 temps.

Global warming at it's best. I was griping about our temps in the teens tonight (which hasn't happend here for 15 years) but after reading some of the above ..... I'll quit griping.

Yea, db, I'm with you. Although my doors are factory insulated the vinyl weatherstripping is gapping at the bottom corners and the threshold is suffering from the ravages of mice. I threw some fine sawdust around these gaps so now I have to remember to not open that door.

A tuque (Canadian French: tuque, sometimes also spelled toque or touque in English) is a knitted hat, originally of wool though now often of synthetic fibers, that is designed to provide warmth in winter. The tuque usually is considered Canada's national winter hat, much like the fur hat is in Russia.

In the United States, this type of hat is more commonly referred to by other names: knit hat or knit cap, sock cap or stocking cap, watch cap, (to)boggan, skull cap , snow hat, snow cap, ski cap, tossle cap, chook, or beanie.

Heh. Our slightly less professional local news station's evening anchor just used the phrase "Butt numbing cold." The more professional station used the words "bitterly cold." I think both are correct.

On the up side, this might get SWMBO to approve a trip to Lowes in the morning for a radiator to put in the shop. It'd be nice to get some work done out there this month.

I've lived in California and I'll gladly take the cold. But I hope you enjoy the traffic, overpopulation, mudslides, fires and earthquakes. As for me, I'll just wear an extra layer. Maybe when they invent "stuck in traffic" underwear, I'll visit CA again.

We have missed the worst of this particular cold front. Thanks to the warming effect of Lake Michigan it has barely dropped below zero and has actually been very nice. My favorite winter temps are between 10 - 20 degrees (above). Just cold enough to freeze most of the moisture out of the air, but not so cold as to become unpleasant.

It has been good to see my home state of Minnesota dropping back into the -30's and -40's. It seems like it has been a long time since the weather I remember growing up. -40 is a beautiful thing that brings people closer together. Heck, it even reads the same in Fahrenheit or Celsius!
