    Comp Virus question

I got a pop up recently asking to download Norton 2009 anti-virus. I know it's bogus and it's really a virus so I obviously didn't download. But in getting that pop up does that mean I already have spyware?

Simplest answer, it CAN, but may not. Pop ups can be Java, Javascript, Active x, etc. If you have antivirus already on your system, or if you don't, I would consider using one of the online antivirus programs. Then things like Ad Aware and spybot search and destroy.

i had some old virus get on and infect a computer, pop up told me to download some antivirus SW.
I got the Free AVG - you have to google "AVG Free" to get it there are no links or download link on the AVG site.
AVG foundsome old virus called "False Virus Alert" that pops up false alert and persuades you to down load the real virus.

It depends. If you close it via Task Manager, then probably not. If you close it via the cancel, ok or red X from the popup window then most likely. I had to clean both my wife's laptopand my FILs of this. Spybot Search and Destroy cleaned it off both of them and prevented it on my desktop PC. AVG did not detect it, nor did Windows Defender.

Another vote for ADAware and Spybot, all my computers have these installed.
