    Rough Night

Been awake on and off most of the night. Phone rang around 11:30 ; My BIL and niece (who live just around the corner from me) came home; snowing a little but not bad. BIL went up the outside steps, found a small icy patch and went down smacking his head on the concrete. Called for an ambulance. BIL was in and out of it the whole time. Now we are just waiting to hear whats happening and how he is making out.

Sorry guys. Just need to vent to people who listen.

Yes Richard, we do listen. Hope he is OK. Head injuries are not good. BTW, what's a "BOL"?

Sorry to hear that. I hope everything checks out okay with your BIL.

Ice can be nasty. A few years ago LOML took one step outside onto a sheet of ice. She was lucky not to hit her head but did tweak her knee which required surgery.

Not to hijack your thread, but this seems like as good a place as any to tell an ice story of my own...

Just this past weekend, I drove to Ohio to visit my family and celebrate my dad's 81st birthday along with an early Christmas. While on the Ohio Turnpike, traffic was moving along at around 70mph when all of the sudden, it turned to ice. A car had slammed into the center concrete barrier and was on fire. It was a single car accident and there was no sign of anybody standing outside the car. Within a few minutes, the car was completely engulfed in flames. There was a state trooper on the scene, but all he could do was watch it burn due to the intensity. I really hope the occupants got out before it burned, but my fear is that they did not due to the position of the car with no signs of people or any doors being opened. Traffic had to helplessly drive through the thick black smoke. It really messed with my head as I had to continue driving through the ice storm for another few hours.

Please be careful everybody! Have a safe holiday season. Keep us informed Richard. Good luck!

At least someone was there when he fell. Friends of ours who used to live in Butte, Montana told us how they'd always walk home in pairs because on a 40 below night, being immobilized by a fall on ice would likely be fatal.

That happened to my Dad when I was a kid... He's okay now... Hope your BIL is fine too... Been dealing with BIL health issues myself... Know how stressful it can be. Hope yours will be fine, and that your bride is okay with everything as well. They can get a bit freaked out you know...?

Thanks for all the kind words and thoughts guys. We're still waiting word from a cat scan. I guess it's good news that they didn't bump someone else to get the scan done.
