I was mixing up a batch of epoxy this morning to fix a crack in my snow shovel when I got to thinking about the two components. It says to mix equal portions but just how much "grace" would you have before the epoxy loses its power? Besides the obvious one extreme to the other, really how critical is the measuring of the resin and hardener?

MY semi-educated guess is probably around 5% to as much as 10%.
As you get away from the perfect mix the properties start to degrade - 5% loss of properties (e.g. ultimate strength) is not too bad, but as you get farther away, then you start to have a sticky, gooey noncured mess on your hands.Last edited by LCHIEN; 12-20-2008, 06:30 AM.

I have just seen a really cool product at the Home Depot. I have seen the two tube syringe pack epoxy before that dispenses equal parts of resin and hardener, but they now have a mixing tube that attaches. It has an auger in it so as you force the two parts throught, they are mixed and ready to apply. The tube is only good for one use, but it looked pretty cool. I'm getting close to epoxying the wooden sub structures in to my Sea King fuselage so I'm going to give this a try.Larry R. Rogers

I've used the two tube syringe. Don't know if it's exact, but I have no reason to believe it's not really close. I had good results with it.
