Would you take a shoe for the President?

43 was almost hit by a pair of Shoes at a a Baghdad news conference if you saw the news.

Makes you wonder where the Secret Service was. The Perp had the opportunity to throw both his shoes. I've seen it in the hollywood movies, one of those secret service guys should have jumped up and let the shoe hit him, especially the second one. Michael Douglas or Clint Eastwood would have.

    What's your thoughts on this?

I have to say I thought his comeback was pretty good--"looked like a size 10 to me"...

Just a couple of observations, without getting too political: 1) 10 years ago doing that at a press conference with the Iraqi leader in attendance would have been a quick ticket to a slow death by torture; 2) he should be throwing his shoes at the pathetic Iraqi "leaders" that have fomented chaos and killed hundreds of thousands of their own comrades (not to mention ours) AFTER we gave them their country on a silver platter; 3) did he plan on walking out of the conference barefoot after that? Curious...

I was disappointed to learn that #43 was a ducker and not a "catch and return fire" president.

I read there was a pretty large blood trail leading from his seat to the door outside. It's hard to say what happened to the guy on the video I saw.

In watching the video, the first shoe flew and the president ducked, there seems to be plenty of time for the secret service to react before the second shoe was hurled. When asked about the incident President Bush mentioned that it looked to him to be a size 10.

In another video of Iraq, one protestor had a shoe atop a pole he was carrying. According to the news reporter hurling shoes is expressing extreme contempt.

I am sure Jay Leno and David Letterman will have fun with this.

True, but I still wouldn't want to be in an iraqi prison. Everyone I've seen leave walks funny on the way out.

I think that is true for prisoners in U.S. institutions, too.

NBC News said the whole episode was 2.3 seconds. Not sure anyone could respond that quickly. Now, if someone had yelled "GUN!" ..... instead of "SHOE!" .....

He's been dodgin' for 8 years. Once more for the road... Did anybody check to see if the guy's feet were still in those shoes?

I thought he was pretty quick -- don't know if I'd be able to get out of the way as quickly as he did!

That guy threw the shoes like girl, sorry ladies, He had no zip on it. Maybe he should stick to soccer. In Iraq it is the worst kind disrespect you can show some one. Remeber when they pulled Sadams statue down and everyone was beating on it with thier shoes?

Oh -- I forgot to answer the question!

Of course I would -- popularity, party affiliation, or how I voted personally doesn't matter at all. Our president is my president, so yeah I'd take a shoe for him.

I agree with Ed, this president may not be the swiftest, but he sure has had one of the roughest presidencies in a long time. I can only imagine the bag he was handed, kinda like what Obama will be getting too.
