What's the best place to shop...for LOML?

Ok, so this might not be the best forum for this query, but y'all are all I got, as I have not thunk up a female id for one of those forums !

Which store is best to buy something for the lady? Thinking small jewelry (preferably), or something decorative for her mantle-piece area. She does not like my choice of clothing, so I wanna avoid that if I can. Want to keep the budget down - less than $100.

I checked, but HD or Lowes don't have anything other than the wood-floor I know she's wanting !

We don't get the local newspaper so I miss the advts; the stores I know of are Kmart/Walmart/Sears/JCPenny/Macy's. Any other I should look at?

Which store have you found best for the unaccompanied male who's generally clueless but is willing to reasonably scout around? Best in terms of range of stuff, and available-but-not-too-pushy help?

Or is online best for this too?

Macy's. Get a local paper today for the weekend ads. There will be coupons for 20% off or more.

If you buy at the other stores, dont' have them gift-wrap it!

It's clothing, but I thought I'd suggest it anyway. PJ's and slippers for around $40. Plus the site is fun to browse.

CM, knew of VS, but happy to know of this too - I like both sites; I may not end up buying anything there just now, but I still like it - a legitimate reason to 'look' .

edit - wait, they also have gift/jewellery. niiicccce, thanks.

Here is what I would do

Take a sample of jewelery she likes to wear and ask a woman just where she would buy something like this.

Now go to that store and find a sales clerk of about the right age and ask to see something that is in the line of or compatible with the samples you have.

Ear rings are a safe gift assuming she wears them. Just be sure that the way they attach to the ear is the same as your samples.

Week long cruise are also a good choice, if you fine one for a hundred bucks let me know

Bill, who has great experience buying the wrong gift.

Doesn't HD or Lowes have a pink handled tool set with diamond dust edges?

Mr. Bill gave some good advice. People are most always willing to help. Of course an upscale jewelry shop purchase might be her preference.

What ever you do get a gift reciept and she can return or exchange wat ever you buy!

Next option is to get a gift card from a "store" and let her pick out something when the post Christmas sales start. Shopping after Christmas will almost double the value of your purchase.

Down side you will have to be creative about an under the tree representation.

I have to concur on Victoria's Secret. They're actually quite helpful in the store. Clueless husbands are quite common.

You can't go wrong with something shiny. Amazon has a huge selection and some good prices and return policy.

Radhak, I will chime in on this topic. The guys are giving you very good advice in shopping.

I would suggest that if you are wanting to buy jewelry that you go to a store just for that. After working in a jewelry store and working through a Christmas there are many choices. If she wears a bracelet think of a charm bracelet, something like a silver or gold chain, and then buy a charm with some meaning. Like for example, if you have a special place you like to go or to, if she has a favorite animal or flower or even if she likes shoes. There are charms to buy and order and there are lots of them. I have one of these bracelets that I bought and for example I have little charms on them two little boys and a little girl silhouttes with my kids names and birthday on them and also since I am a bowler I have a bowling pin and ball. This gift is something that can be cherished and handed down, eventually.

The smaller jewelry stores are a wonderful place to shop because they are often very helpful. The charms will have to be put on by a jeweler as they have to be soldered (sp).

Or another thing that I just thought about is a necklace with a type of locket on it.

                        Hope this helps you out.
Mrs. Wallnut a.k.a (the head nut).

Melissa's post brought something else to mind. I don't remember if you have kids, and your profile doesn't help on that. But if you do, a mother's ring will almost guarantee a happy camper. Not sure what the cost is today, but it sure would make a nice gift. And it might be in your price range. I gave one to my wife years ago. I think she'd part with her 15 karat diamond ring first.

Lotsa help, thanks all! Melissa, nice pointer - I have seen her get excited about that type of bracelet (somewhat puzzling to my uncultured brain )...
Bill gives me a great trick; now to ensure whoever i ask doesn't get the wrong idea that i'm buying for them !
Hmmm, despite my two girls (6,9), had not heard of mother's ring, but I now see that's a neat idea too.
Amazon is my favorite haunt, my fallback, really, so wanted to check other places first.
Dang it Alex! If only you had alerted us (in Bargain Alerts, of course!), I might have snapped that one up! Then she might have got me a festool in return...
