Christmas Tree

Is yours up yet? What about lights? We will go tree shopping Thanksgiving weekend and I will also put the lights up then. When do you normally put a tree up?

When I was a little 'un the tree went up two weekends before Christmas. We'd all pile into the car and go cut one. My dad was known to cut the branches to shape the tree, then drill the trunk to put the cuttings into bare spots. We had 10' ceilings so we could get a 9' tree.

I will get all the decoration and the 2 trees down from the rafters in the Garage on Friday, don't do the Black Friday thing. Depending on the weather I will get the outside light up and will hold of on the lawn decorations untill the leave stop falling. It is too much hassel blow/racking leave with all the decoration out on the lawn. I will set the 2 trees up and LOML will do the final decorating along with the rest of the inside. I decorate more in the backyard as the we can enjoy the them. Our neighborhood has a big problem with stolen decorations so there isn't a lot out in the front yards. All the blow up stuff is in the backyard where we can see from the family room and kitchen. Getting a little older now, 66, so I don't do a lot like I used to. Don't like getting up on ladders so no more stuff on the roof or high in the trees. Just try to keep in safe and simple.

I planned on putting up my tree on Friday but I may do it on Wednesday night. All the grandkids will be over for Thanksgiving and I think it'll be a hoot seeing the two 1yr old toddlers reaction to the tree and lights. An added bonus will be watching their parents try and keep them out of the tree. Being grandpa is a wonderful thing Pat

Mine is up, but on my dining room table...

It is a pre-lit job, and a couple banks of lights are out, so I have to go over it inch-by-inch and troubleshoot. A real PITA...

Generally we put it up about 2 - 2 1/2 weeks before Christmas and usually take it down by Jan. 1st. Just LOML and myself here for the most part.

I can remember my dad doing like Crokett's dad, of drilling and inserting branches in the voids when I was growing up. My parants were always afraid of fire with a dry tree and so didn't set it up until about the same as I do now. Probably where my habits came from. Fire is the main reason I went to an artificial tree years ago.

Since Thankgiving is so close to Christmas this year, we'll probably put the tree up this weekend.

I was up on the roof cleaning out the gutters after a big windstorm blew off the last of the leaves about two weeks ago. It was a nice day, so I went ahead and put the lights up on the eves. Still have a bit more exterior lighting to finish...probably do that this weekend.

Ours usually goes up about 2 weeks before Christmas. It comes down shortly after Christmas, when I'm waiting for spring training.

One of my twins has her tree up in her room The other two girls are waiting until the Saturday after Thanksgiving when we put up all the Christmas decorations. Lights are on the outside of the house but won't be lit until AFTER thanksgiving. We had a nice weekend a couple of weeks ago and it is so much easier than putting them up in the sleet and snow.
