    I just saw this thread, but I had a similar problem, and I fixed it myself pretty easily. SAME EXACT STUIPD SHORTCUT from the original contractor by bending the PVC, except mine lasted 22 years, not just 7...

    I ripped every inch of PVC out between the inside shutoff in the garage, and the meter and replaced it with brand new stuff. It works great.

    A suggestion though, before you hit that water heater with new water, you are going to want to drain that sucker and get rid of any calcium deposits in there before they get pushed down the lines to your faucets, stop valves, and toilets. I know this from personal experience. Very bad things can happen...

      I just drained our water heater after thinking about it for a while. There was about a quart of crystallized calcium and other minerals.
