    Holy crap!

Did anyone see the NEW sawstop video on Youtube? Yep, Steve Gass finally went the whole nine yards!
Both the sound and video are a bit off, but there's no mistaking what he did!

    heres the link:

So he got enough test fires down, that he finally did it. I figured he would in time.

      ???? the riving knife didn't drop ????

So I'm guessing it's not attached to the blade carriage, so it could conceivably get out of alignment.

If at first you don't succeed, deny you were trying in the first place.

That is a very valid point. Is this a true riving knife, or some kind of hybrid (does it raise and lower with the blade). I understand that the reason it doesn't drop, is the blade brake needs to hit the blade, but how is it disconnected?

Most of the sawstop videos, they aren't using a riving knife.

I saw it on high def TV last night (actually EARLY this morning) and they showed it over and over in super-slow motion and it is fantastic to see. They also had the interior of the saw showing the action in super-slow (slow enough that you could actually see the progress of the spark from the fuse link).

OMG - even though I knew what it was going to do I still felt my heart in my mouth as he put his finger into the blade.

That was on Discovery Channel's Time Warp last night. Two guys and a couple of hi-speed cameras that can stop just about anything. They also did a bit on pneumatic nail guns. It's a bit frightening to see in slo-mo what a nailer can do.

Seeing someone, no matter why, put their finger into a tablesaw blade made the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

It made me uncomfortable watching that too. I wonder how much bigger of a nick it would have taken if he moved his finger in quickly.

Wow. Even if I had invented it I am still not sure I'd have the courage to stick my finger into the moving blade. Actually seeing work on his finger is impressive though.

Made my Homer Simpson hair jump too. I was also wondering about his finger speed. Don't know anyone who cuts wood so tentatively. I was thinking he was going to do it the same way as the hotdog. That being said. NOT ME!!!!!

Actually, I saw it too and was real impressed until I was talking about it at work. One of the electronic guys said that he never touched the blade, as is proven in slo-mo. He said the way it's wired up, the sensor will register his capitence (the conductive finger) as it get's very close. He said you would have at least should have seen a tooth indent the finger a bit.

                            I'm still impressed, though.
