Anyone know of a computer program....

that could convert a color digital photo into a broad outline that a child could then color?

You all know what a coloring book page looks like.

I could do this in any number of programs if I wanted to spend hours doing it.

    Any help out there????

    OK...Disclaimer! I haven't used this program....But a Google search turned this up:

    http://3d2f.com/programs/14-146-kidw...download.shtml

They offer a free demo version - It might be worth a try.

You can get pretty close using the GIMP (www.gimp.org) using the Photocopy filter.

Oh, and the GIMP is free and work on must about any operating system. And did I mention it's free?

I'll play around with it a bit and see if I can't get anything a little more coloring book like.

How about Corel Draw and the AutoTrace function?

I have an old (at least 4 years old) version of Draw Essentials that if I recall does that. I haven't done much with vector art in so long it is hard to recall... Been working regularly in The GIMP...

You could of course use GIMP with the Quick Sketch plug in. Not sure if that is really what you want though...Quick Sketch Plugin.

Got me trying to think vector with the tools I usually use...

Here's another one I did using the GIMP by first converting it to 10 indexed colors, then back to RGB, then adjusting the levels to increase the contrast, then converting to 2 indexed colors. It's a little closer.

BTW, did I mention that the GIMP is free?

Here's another one. I use PhotoS to turn pictures like the first one into the second one for transferring to piece of wood and then using dremel to etch it.
