I had all 4 of mine out in 10th grade. Missed one day of football practice (for the procedure) but was back the next day. Recovery wasn't bad.

However, while I did have a general (IV), I was waking up toward the end before he was done. The crunching/grinding sensation as he was working on the last one still sends a shiver up my spine when I think about it.

BW, I'm sure you'll do great.

    Kristofor.

I woke up when I had mine out when I was 17. They had me on laughing gas and I couldn't care less what they were doing. It's actually my favorite experience with a dentist. Think I missed one day and took 1 pill for the pain, after that I was good to go.

Mine was done because my parents insurance was about to run out and they figured it was a good time to get it done hadn't really had any problem with them. Glad they decided to do that.

Good luck with it, hope your experience is as good as mine was.

Schoolmate of mine had hers done and she ended up swelling up like a chipmunk. If that happens have Melissa take some pics, I would enjoy a good chuckle.

Now that you've brought it up I will agree that the entire procedure is absolutely barbaric. At one point I think my oral surgeon had his foot on my chest for leverage!

Hi there everyone. Thanks for all the thoughts for Mark. We just got home from Yakima where he had his appointment and he is doing fine. Right now he is very very numb and will be for a while they said so he is not feeling any pain right now. He is sleepy and after he eats his milkshake he is going to sleep some and the kids and I are going to disappear for a while so he can sleep. I am going to get his perscriptions in a bit and make sure he takes them tonight so that he can sleep at least. Right now the swelling isn't that bad.

So things went pretty well and he is doing fine right now. I will let you know if he gets to grumpy on me because he will show up on one of y'alls doorsteps if he becomes to much for me

Good to hear things went well. Keep him away from the power tools while he's drugged up.

Thought I'd post an update. After the proceedure all I wanted to do was eat ice cream and sleep. Yesterday evening I was hungry so I had some bean soup, dang it tasted good. Later I could eat a real thick piece of dark wheat bread, no problems with that either. About 10 pm I decided that perhaps I should take one of the pain pills that I was prescribed. What a waste of money. Kinda like insurance though, better to spend the money up front and have it and not need it than to not have it, need it and not be able to get it.

I by no means have a high margin of pain, or at least I thought. The pain, if you can call it that is way less that the pain before extraction that I've been living with for the last 10 weeks. Twice before I've had the same reaction to not needing pain pills. Once I hade my gall bladder removed, pain free by the next day. When I ran my finger through the router bit after a day I did not need any more pain pills and that was the most painful injury I'd ever had.

Thanks to ya'll that lifted me up in your prayers! I'm sure that has helped. Thanks also to ya'll for the kind and caring words. I appreciate the encouragement and support.

I just may have to spend some time in the shop later this afternoon.

BTW I was real impressed when I received a check up call from the oral surgeon last night @ 8:00 pm.

                Mark

Glad you are feeling better. I found the same thing the pain before is worse than the pain after, especially dental problems. The first night I usually take the pain meds so I can sleep and after that nothing execpt maybe a Asprin or Advil. Enjoy some shop time is it raining up there? I is down here. My favorite meal after an extraction was either bean soup or cream of mushroom soup and a choc. shake/malt.

Me too. The dread is the worst part. It really only hurt for the first day and not much then.

The good news is you are up, around, and doing good. Bad news is that I wasted a lot of time sewing a doll and the pins didn't work at all!

I'm glad it went well for you. My last wisdom tooth was a nightmare. I went with a local, because I am so hard to put under. I for some reason, seem to be resistant to antithesitics.
The dentist came in and I told him I wasn't deadened. He asked if I was numb on my cheek, and I said yes, but not the tooth. He gave me another shot and started working immediately. The tooth broke off, and he had to pull each root seperately. He thought I was wootzing out or something, but I wasn't dead, and I felt each tug. Needless to say, I will never go back to this idiot. I recovered well, the pain pills don't ever help me much anyway, but the next day I was back at it.

Like I said, I'm sure happy yours went well.

I had 2 done at once and my daughter did all 4.

General anethesia is the only way to go. You'll have some soreness but probably much less that you have now. Don't fool around with the antibiotics take them when told and for the entire period. The first time I had this done, I thought that I knew better and wound up with a secondary infection. That was much worse than the original.

                        Thinking of you.

                        Cheers,

                        MikeR

Its' impacted and has been causing me grief for about 2 1/2 months. Way back in early September I had a consultation with the oral surgeon. Since I had just then came off vacation I choose to schedule it for the first available Friday that I could. I tell ya 2 months is a really long time when you have a sore tooth! Yup, I'm having him put me out while he cuts and digs and pulls!

Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers. Also LOML and kids that the after extraction pain does not foul my mood to bad! I've alrady warned them that I'd be grumpier than usual!
