I like them soft. The best cookies are just cool enough out of the oven to eat. The chocolate chips are still melted.

When daughter #1 is not in the shop with me she is spending time baking cookies. I have been known to be the first one to hover over the cookie sheet when they come out of the oven. She had better spend more time in the shop else I will be putting on too many pounds. From the "deep south" part of Canada

I have to vote yes. My wife is known for her chocolate chip cookies and I agree, right out of the oven there is nothing better than a warm soft cookie with the chips on verge of melting away. Heaven. But, at room temp, I prefer a nice crunch. A soft cookie at room temp makes me think of old stale crackers. Fortunately for me, once her cookies reach room temp they set to nice firm crunch; just the way I like'm. It's a win win.sigpicComment

I guess I am one of the odd ones here. I like them slightly crispy, dunked in milk...
Of course it all depends on WHAT cookies we are talking about. Oatmeal cookies, Macaroons etc... should be soft, Chocolate Chip, Turtles etc... should be crispy...
LOML disagrees on that, and likes her chocolate chip cookies gooey...Please like and subscribe to my YouTube channel. Please check out and subscribe to my Workshop Blog.Comment

Soft.
That said, I don't get soft cookies that often. Although I as yet have no food allergies, there are chocolate and dairy allergies in my family. Which means cookies tend to be made with margarine, and without chips. Margariney cookies seem to give up
Hey, I love a good golden raisin oatmeal cookie or twelve, but a thick, buttery chocolate chip cookie, with the semi-sweet chips still gooey ...

Dude -- I was actually considering asking this very same question a few days ago!! (We were making some at the time.)
Flat, crunchy on the outside, and chewy in the middle. Mmmm.
I use the Toll House recipe, pre-softening the butter, measuring the flour by lightly spooning it in, measuring the brown sugar by packing it, and baking for about one minute less than specified.online at http://www.theFrankes.com

Later we wised up and skipped the baking.
I just plain like cookies, soft, crunchy, or inbetween.

I don't usually make it to the baking stage. I guess that is chewy?
j/k I'm the baker in the house and I prefer chewy, In fact I'll pass on crunchy cookies.Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work. - Thomas EdisonComment
