    Crossreplying

We had a thread about crossposting, but crossreplying wasn't touched on in how to reply under the same circumstances.

Here's the scenario. Lets say that in two different WW'ing sites a member posts the same topic. Now maybe that will get a variety of responses from two different groups. Lets assume that a member of those same two sites replies to the same post. The reply may be pertinent information to the thread that may be beneficial to the two different groups.

Now, comes the tiff. Lets say that the OP copied/pasted the same exact thread into the second site. And lets say the reply for that first thread was a well thought out answer that may be pertinent to the second group as well. Would a copy/paste reply to the second site be an acceptable method?

If the response would be beneficial to members of both groups, other than the OP, there would be no reason not to post the same response.

What tiff? If the OP posted the question on multiple sites, why should he/she care if the same poster replies on multiple sites?

sometimes i wonder if a thread's OP ever reads the responses. There's just silence after a careful, thorough, well thought-out reply.

I need to weigh in as a more-consumer-than-contributer. I rarely go to other forums, so I am thankful for all the threads here, and their responses. I'd be very sorry to miss a response just because it was posted in another forum. Of course, missing a non-woodworking thread is not a problem, but anything as important (vital? critical? life-enhancing? ) as woodworking - I don't want to miss it.

As for non-acknowledgement - I'm guilty too, but not because I did not read the responses, but could be that I want to thank but did not get the time, or want to ask another question and put it off and wrongly remembered having asked it, etc. Not really a good excuse, but that's how it is. Maybe I should add that to my signature.

I think if someone cross-posts a question, that person automatically takes on responsibility on keeping the threads in sync and provide summaries of what was learned on the other sites.
