Hi. I happen to be in Germany at the moment and it just occured to me that there may be some tools that originate from here that are difficult or more expensive to get in the US. Any ideas?

festool...Loring in Katy, TX USA
If your only tool is a hammer, you tend to treat all problems as if they were nails.

Just remember that the Festool price will be in Euro's, not USD, plus the 15% VAT, making a router or circ. saw about the price of a small car in this country.
From my experience living there, the only things cheaper in Germany were beer, bread and brats. Tells you what they value over there...Jeff

Thanks, guys, I'll have a look around and see what's possible. I know I can get the vat back, but as germdoc said, it all seems to be expensive. I was looking at two cherries chisels, only about $20 cheaper, and would still have to find a place that has them which may not be too easy. You don't need a parachute to skydive, you only need a parachute to skydive twice.Comment

Any power tools bought there will be 240V and will have Euro style plugs right?
I was there a few years ago and didn't see any bargains. Beer (Kolsch in Cologne) was cheap, but water was rediculously expensive. I always drink water with meals and a .75L (25oz) bottle of bad tasting warm water was about 10 USD at restaurants. A Kolsch was only a few dollars.
I was thirsty the whole time I was there. Most water was carbonated (yuck), but I was able to find some non-carbonated mineral water. At best it was slightly cool and ice was rare.Comment

Unfortunately, the last time I was in Germany I was 9 years old.
