    Us Seniors

For all of us who are --- seniors --- for all of you who know seniors --- and for all of you who --- will be seniors.

It pays to be able to laugh about it when you are!

    And, speaking of senior moments:

'WHERE Is My SUNDAY Paper?' The irate customer calling the newspaper office loudly demanded, wanting to know where her Sunday edition was.

'Ma'am,' said the newspaper employee, 'today is Saturday. The Sunday paper is not delivered until tomorrow, on Sunday.'

There was quite a long pause on the other end of the phone, followed by a ray of recognition....as she was heard to mutter 'Well, s**t ...so that's why no one was at church today.'

I'm on vacation this week and I'm having a hard time keeping the days straight. And today's only Tuesday...

      Right?

I am retired and I continue to get the daily paper so I can tell what day it is. It's right there by the headlines so it must be just as important.

Not what I wanted to hear. We're going to retire to an area that doesn't have daily newspaper delivery. I suppose I check the date on my computer every morning.

Just spent 2 weeks vacation around the house. Had to do the same thing!

I found the most fool proof way was to get an alarm clock that also has the day and date.

My folks gave me a nice watch for Christmas a couple years ago, with month/day displayed. I wore it for a couple days and went nuts... I had to go back to the cheapie plastic Casio watch that also displays the day of the week. I barely keep up remembering which day it is (and thus which annoying weekly meetings are happening today) while working.

When I'm on vacation, it's a lost cause without the watch to remind me - everything turns into a weekend day. The retired folks I meet for lunch on Tuesdays & Thursdays often forget too. Once bases his week on Leno's "Headlines" - "Headlines were on last night so I knew today was a lunch day." Thursdays he's less reliable.

Now the cell phone displays day of week too... my backup plan.

Back in the day when I was doing morning radio, I set my alarm for 2:45 am every morning--I had to be at the station at 5 am and on air at 6 am. One morning my alarm didn't go off and I woke up at 5:15. After cussing a blue streak, leaping into some clothes, jumping into the car and racing toward the station, I realized it was Sunday, my only day off.

I was 25 at the time....

Spooky, I did the same thing, except I was 21. Transmitters got a bit of a short warmup that morning and the sign-on newscast was definitely a rip-and-read!

A week or two ago, loml started shaking me saying wake up, wake up....neither of our alarms went off....we have to get going. So I jumped out of bed and hurried down stairs to get ready for work. As I headed down, I heard music start up from the beadroom. LOML woke up well before the alarm and thought she slept in without checking any other clock in the house. My alarm is set 1/2 before I have to get up so I can hit the snooze at least once. I had plenty of time to get ready that morning.

Well, when I finally retired I stopped wearing a watch at all; my plan is: if I've been sleeping and wake up and its daylight--better get up! If I've been up and it gets dark--better go to bed! If I'm hungry--better eat! Simple enough for me! LOL

When you're retired, checking the newspaper will not help. The first day of the week is Sunday, and the rest of the week are Saturdays!
