    Life's Headgear

I don't like hats. Some I've worn because I've had to, others were an honor, and then there are those that are absolutely necessary. I'll try to keep the chronology right starting with a little beanie cap with a propeller that I just had to have when I was 4 or 5. Bet that thing would be worth a fortune today. After that there was the cowboy hat I wore ages 5-6, along with a gunbelt with 2 guns, and cowboy boots, and wearing nothing else but my underwear. That made a cute picture that circulated my family for years. I seriously doubt that it guaranteed my military career. I never did want the "Mickey Mouse" hat with the ears. My neighbor's kid had one. I think he looked the same without it.

Then there were the caps in the Cub Scouts, and the Boy Scouts. Then there was the high school graduation cap, you know the one, the one with the tassel. After that I couldn't attend my formal graduation from college, so thankfully I didn't have to wear one of those things again.

My next hats were Army ones. There was a saucer one for dress, and the "C" cap, and a "baseball cap" style. We also had a helmet ("steel pot") that was supposed to protect our heads. I also had a "Boonie" cap for most field operations. For garrison and "dress" there was my favorite cap of all caps my "Green Beret". Seems like that one was very recognizable, especially to any military personnel, and was the most difficult earning to have the honor to wear.

After the Army, I got into amateur automobile driving events. Before and after competition, wearing some kind of cap was necessary because of the sun. During competition, a helmet was mandatory. I also wore a helmet for all motorcycling. I always preferred a full face helmet.

Now, around the yard, I have to wear some kind of headgear. Either to keep off the sun, or stopping nasty stuff from fallin' on my head. I still have some original issue "Boonie caps" from my Army days. They don't have much of a brim. So, to keep my neck from gettin' too red, LOML bought be a "Raffia" style hat to wear outside. It's like a straw cowboy hat. I'll be testin' it out today for the first time. It looks like this one below. Any other "mad hatters" out there?

Funny, I rather like hats. I actually have quite a collection of them. My coat closet is stuffed with ball cap hangers and caps.

I've never asked why I had it, since we are not Jewish, but my parents had a Yamikah for me for some reason.

Of course I had the obligatory little plastic cowboy hat with the bandolier and two little chromed plastic pistols with white plastic grips, and of course the little chrome plastic Sheriff's star.

I had / still have the team ball cap from my Cub Scouts softball team. And the uniform cap from the Cub Scouts, and then Boy Scouts. These were basically a blue baseball cap with yellow piping, and the Cub Scout logo patch, and a dark green baseball cap with red piping with the Boy Scout logo (if you know about the dates the uniforms changed, I am dating myself really badly now!).

In high school, I wore a Dorfman Pacific hat that somewhat resembled Colonel Blake's hat from the old T.V. Series MASH, except mine was tan.

I had the obligatory college Baseball team hat even though I didn't play, and then college / working years happened.

I still have the majority of the following hats...

"Touch -n Foam, America's Hole Filler" hat. I had that as a college freshman. A former classmate scratched out the "-n foam" part, so now it reads...
"Touch America's Hole Filler". We thought we were so funny doing that. Now it seems dorkish...

Several camoflauge ball caps with company logos from any variety of outfitters, friend's equipment rental businesses, gun manufacturers, and sporting good suppliers. I have no idea how many, but I can think of the following for sure.
    Clear Creek Equipment Rental.
    Remmington
    Winchester
    Colt
    Armand Ace Hardware.

Ball caps that were part of my work uniform when I worked in gas stations. Particularly I still have Speedway Chevron, and Grant Road Chevron ball caps.

Ball cap that was part of my school uniform in tech school. (BIG mistake, parents, do NOT let your kids waste their time, and theirs and your money on a tech school unless you KNOW that they can get a job with credentials from that school!).

Dukes Of Hazard General Lee ball cap.

    MASH ball cap

    Knight Rider ball cap

Professionally used yellow hardhat. I worked construction for a while when in college, pulling fiber optic cables, pouring concrete, doing framing what have you...

College Graduation cap with Phi Theta Kappa tassel.

"Outback" Austrailian leather floppy cowboyish looking hat. Worn out and gone now...

Green wide brimmed outfitters hat with screen inserts.

    Toby Keith ball caps.

Toby Keith signature black beaver felt cowboy hat from Cracker Barrel Country Store. This is my current favorite. It's comfortable, keeps the sun out of my eyes, and breathes exceptionally well.

I've had countless others through the years, but those are the ones that come to mind.

I like wearing hats. I have a couple ball caps for weekends when I don't want to comb my hair. I have a straw hat for yard work or golfing and I have a Tilley Hat for most everything else. My Tilley is my favorite one, especially for travel. I can squash it in a suitcase or a carry on bag and when I get where I am going it pops right back into shape.

I am a cap person. My hair has been sliding back off of my head since I was in high school so sun protection has always been an issue. I've worn ball caps since I was in junior high. Some were pro teams, others were usually motorcycle manufacturers of some sort. Currently I wear a Cal Poly cap, the college I currently attend. I've ridden motorcycles and bicycles forever so I own helmets for street, dirt, and mountain biking. In the military I was required to wear a couple different caps, none were "hats". On a daily basis I wore a unit ball cap, which had the squadron logo on it. If I wasn't wearing a unit cap then I wore the standard warm weather BDU cap that easily folded up and stowed in my BDU cargo pocket. When dressed in blues (very rare for a mechanic) I wore a "garrison cap". When I went to the big sandbox a DCU boonie cap was on my head although I had to pack a kevlar helmet. I also have a soviet rabbit fur hat in my collection.

Tooooo many to count from a historical perspective, including some I would not mention anyway. Here is a picture behind my desk, might give you an indication of the hat collection. I wear straw hats in the summer felt hats in the winter, and baseball caps all year long.

And for the ball cap style hats the LOML has a special form for washing them in the dish washer.

The favorite is the straw Stetson, and a couple of Ball caps NRA, and Big A** Fans

I have a large number of hats. Mostly ball caps that either I have bought myself, or given to me from companies that i have dealt with. I say ball caps but none of them have baseball teams on them. I went through a couple of hat stages. When I was younger I had the cub scout hat, cowboy hat( I thought it looked cool), an Indianna Jones hat, a Andy Cap, staw hats when I worked outside in the summer, wooly hats for outside in the winter, hard hats when I worked inside, and an old hat when I'm in the shop.

Usually when I'm outside you will see me in a hat.

But never, never wear a hat in the house!

I also wound up with a collection without realizing it. After 20 years of track events, there would be hand-out caps, from advertisers, different teams, sponsors, at each event. This was common at events, and I usually had only a few favorites that I ever wore, just stockpiled the rest.

Finally, LOML gives me an ultimatum, so they had to go. I really wasn't too torn up about it.

I don't like hats much, but it's because I'm 40 and still have all my hair. I like to show it off

There's really only one hat worth having:
