Who is staying and who is leaving

Just saw a post from Loring and I am concerned. The eye of Ike is supposed to pass right over Katy Texas his listed residence.

Are you staying or going and who else has moved to higher ground?

I know! I mapped Katy the other day, wondering where it was. I sure hope the storm loses some steam before it gets there!

Katy is pretty far inland and should be ok. Ike is a pretty big storm however so they will see some fun winds. However the bigger concern is the storm surge which they should be very safe from.

I was concerned about the whole bunch in and around Houston. I was not concerned about the surge for Katy just the wind. Looking at the Galveston area the surge is filling the town. And you might need a kayak to get out of League City.

We have lots of people all ready evacuated to the Metroplex. I was hoping for a little rain here in Plano.

For any of you that decided to ride it out, all I can say is "Hunker down, find something solid, and hang on tight!"

Anyone that wants to make a last minute run for the hills, hotel rooms are scarce if there are any available. It may not be fancy, but I have a haide-a-bed and lots of floor space. Come on up and we will make do for a couple of days. E-mail me with a number and I will call with directions.

I didn't mean to imply you were only worried about him, sorry, a little pre-occupied and I was answering the question I saw.

We are staying, have the house pretty much buttoned up. My houses elevation is in the mid 20s. so we should be good as long as it dosen't get really bad. Even then we hopefully will just have to wade arround for a while.

I'm hoping most others in and around here got out ok if they were needed to. Fortunatley all of Houston wasn't paniced into thinking they need to evacuate(ergo Rita) so those in the flood zone could actually move to higher ground.

Loring is hunkered down in a foreign country 6 timezones away courtesy of his employer starting before Ike was aimed straight at Houston.

Katy is 60 miles inland, elevation 112 feet at my house. Not worried about storm surges where I'm at. Local flooding perhaps. Looks like Ike will pass about 30 miles east of Katy. Been talking to the wife, she put away all the stuff thet might blow except my wheelbarrow which I told her to turn turtle on the ground.
She's staying with the neighbors. Might be gusts in the 70's 80's 90's mph that might take some limbs down...

My daughter went to Austin and they left at 6PM THursday and didn't get to Austin until the wee hours of the morning, normally a 2.5 hour trip.

Thanks for the concern. Hope the guys in League city, lago vista and their property are OK.

I've got two shelters open now and looking to probably open more. Thankfully, the weekend is coming up, schools closed, officers available. etc. I pray that it is not too bad. Back in 78-80, I was flooded out twice and in a tornado, all in Houston. I beleive that someone was telling me to move and I did.

You guys stay safe and dry.
