the SUV is the worst of them all. I really don't think that could even be called a SUV.

I don't care what you make them look like, I prefer a larger vehicle!

guys, the smart wasn't designed specifically for the States, but there are places where it does fit. Places like DC, where parking is at a severe premium basically at all times, the Smart can fit in spaces too small for any other vehicle (like most of the larger cities in Europe and Asia). And while the mileage of the US version isn't stellar, the European Diesel version gets much better mileage. 70mpg or better. They also have an EV model that has a range of 70 miles that is being tested in the UK.

Is the car for everyone? no. Heck I wouldn't want one because I'm not a car person any more. (as silly as it looks, I'm looking for a Suzuki X90 for my 4 mile commute) But it does fit certain needs. And comparing it to a truck for contractor's use is as silly as the car looks.

Small cars have been available in Europe and Asia for a log time too. BMW 1 series, the Ford Ka (too small to even get the r for Kar in there ), Honda has cars smaller than the Fit in Japan. The Smart isn't the only vehicle in it's class, just the one with a lot of hype and sellable in the States since it actually meets safety standards. That and it was originally supposed to be sold in "Swatch" style kiosks of some type.

I'd still MUCH rather ride a Motorcycle than drive a Smart car...

I'd like to see them handle in the snow. Not so smart then.

I've heard they only get about 20 MPG anyways.... so what's so smart about that? My Sedan gets that.

What??? The mileage is rated at 33/41 city/highway. I know a couple of people with them and they say they get better than that on average. I don't know who told you that, but you may not want to listen to them in the future.
