A while back there was a post about a carbide blade sharpener that HF was selling. I read allot of commentary about whether people would or wouldn't use it. What they would or wouldn't use it on etc. But did anyone actually buy one and try it out?

I don't have one of those, and I wouldn't buy one. If the one you are referring to is this one, I wouldn't think it would be proficient enough to do predictable sharpening, for that kind of money. It appears that the picture shows a carbide tipped blade mounted for sharpening, I would question the quality of accuracy and materials used.
A good sharpening service should have carbide repair capabilities, and likely have more precision equipment.

Table saw blades are one thing. But good quality circular saw blades are so cheap it hardly makes financial sense to sharpen them. Having said that, I have a particular Freud Diablo blade in my Skilsaw that I have had sharpened 3 times. I guess it is sentimentality, or maybe wanting to do the right thing environmentally or something I dunno... A new blade is like $15.00, and a sharpening service is $10.00... I bought one.
The "wheel" or "cup" it comes with is really just a small diamond blade. It is simply too coarse to sharpen a blade. If someone would make a decent (fine) blade for it, it would actually work okay.
In the meantime, though, I have found other uses for it, including cutting some HSS tool bits.Comment
