The Open might make more sense then. I know there are games and sets are groups of games and a match is a group of sets. I am thinking tennis should call the whole shebang a game, like baseball or football. Maybe the sets could be made up of matches, but that's just me. Anyhoo, I think each time you win a game you get a point, and if you get enough points you win a set. Win enough sets and you win the match. What I don't know is how games are scored and how many games you have to win to win a set.

Got me. I think that love is one of the scores and I think ace is a point. Some games seem to have five sets and others three or four. I don't know why the fella serving don't loose the serve when he can't get the ball over the net or hits it out of bounds like they do in volley ball. He just keeps on a serving a while and then for some reason the other fella is serving every serve. I think I would stand up closer to the net and spike some of those easy ones back over.Sometimes the old man passed out and left the am radio on so I got to hear the oldie songs and current event kind of things -

US Open:
To win the whole thing is championship.
To win championship you need to win all of your single elimination matches (total 7 matches, with 128 starting players).
If you lose a match you are out.
To win a match against the other player, its a best of 5 sets, first to win three sets wins the match. (Most other non-grand slam tournaments you have to win best two of three)
To win a set you have to be the first to win six games by two. If it gets to six-all then you play a tie breaker, first to win 7 points, by two, no limit.
To win a game you must be the first to win four points, by two. The points are counted 15, 30, 40, after 40 is game. If it gets to 40-40 (duece, or three points to each player) then you continue to play until one gets ahead by 2 points. Ahead by one point after duesce is denoted by Ad-in for the server or ad-out for the receiver.
Serves alternate by games, you get two chances to get a serve in to start the point, or you lose the point, Hitting the ball out of bounds or into the net loses the point.Last edited by LCHIEN; 09-08-2008, 01:58 AM.
