Yep. Only XP/Vista right now. Mac and Linux are coming at some point.

I am using it now and it is running just fine for me. Imported all my bookmarks, history etc. If you have problems remember it is a beta.

One more thing, I don't know if FF or IE do this (I've always just installed the Google toolbar) but with Chrome I can punch a search term into the address bar and it will search Google.com for that term.

Yeah I was using it for a good part of the day, too. I had one problem download a file, which I reported, but other than that it was very quick and responsive.

If you do that within FF it will take you to the #1 search result for Google.

can you download more themes? Because I really hate the stock one, and thats whats keeping me from using it.

In any case, it could not be any worse than IE - there was a time in the past you could not download Firefox using IE ! Talk of browser 'restrictions', or rather, 'big brother browser'!
For a while, Microsoft Defender was showing FF as malware in its searches. At the time I was supporting several homes as a sidejob and when the browser I had installed showed up on that my phone rang off the hook. That little stunt of theirs really left a bad taste in my mouth.......

I've been using Chrome beta for a couple of days now. It is many times faster than IE.

I've used Chrome since it came out and I like the simplicity of it. It could have installed a Home buton by default, instead of making me do it (Customise icon (the wrench), Options, Basics, Homepage, tick the box), but I like the variable History options, the Incognito, etc.

However, from another forum I contribute to, this was posted today:

                    "Guys

Just so you are aware, and in no way wanting to scaremonger, I have just blocked all corporate access to Chrome from our network due to our IT Security team identifying a number of significant 'potential' vulnerabilities and exploits in it which are currently believed to be being hammered by hackers. It is also being targeted with malware quite heavily too. Info found here http://www.techworld.com/security/ne...d=103917&email

I'm not suggesting you stop using it, just make sure all your protection and firewalls are up to date and be careful where you browse.

                    Cheers

                    Mark

PS Just so you know, I am the UK Network Infrastructure manager for one of the biggest accountancy firms in the world and we have 12k+ employees in the UK alone, so I'm not coming at this from a biased viewpoint, just letting you know what I know. Do with this info as you please."

I thought it worth posting in case you weren't aware of the article mentioned. I'll keep on browsing with Chrome, though.

                    Ray.

Good info, thanks Ray. I stopped using Chrome over the weekend in part because it is a beta and I expected to see issues like this. I like the browser but will wait.

Google's World Domination : a browser called Chrome!

There are plenty of security and Privact issues with Chrome.

Here's a Link that tells you exactly what chrome is phoneing home with and how to turn it offf.
                          http://www.google.com/chrome/intl/en-US/privacy.html

One of the major security problems, ohter than the fact that is has no really been tested for securty in the real world is that Chrome plays outside of Vista Security Zones. This means that if you go to a bad site, then windows security zones, will not stop the site from downloading stuff automatically.

It also is incredably bloated. It uses almost as much, or more memory that IE8, and any time you can beat microsoft in bloatware, well that is saying something.

Just to be balenced, it is a beta test version, and they ussually have lots of extra logging, and software tracking metrics enabled, so in it's final form, it may slim down considerably.

                          John

Has anyone noticed that Chrome adds an automatic spell checker when replying to a BT3Central post. It adds a a squiggly line under misspelled words or words it does not recognize, just like WordPerfect.

Yeah -- it's actually one of the main reasons I use FF and Chrome

BTW, I did notice that Chrome was slowing down after being opened for a few days... like FF does.
