What does that have to do with Vespa? A car ran into him. People die riding motorcycles after cars hit them. I have no stats but I'd wager there are less deaths on Vespas than full on motorcycles. Lower speeds, local driving and riders are probably more careful.

I was thinkin' that too. Whenever I see on the news about motorcycle accidents, which are numerous here, the brand isn't mentioned. They are usually collisions that the car/truck runs into them, or the bike "lost control" and climbed a tree or building.

Maybe there is a very high concentration of Vespas in Italy, and they call the bike a Vespa like calling it a scooter. Of course the deceased was a famous guy. Maybe they wanted to give him more credit for riding a top of the line scooter.

pininfarina the company designed/made some beautiful car bodies for the Italian sports car industry. I think they also did the famed Cadillac Allante.

Given that the motor scooter was invented in Italy in 1947 by Piaggio and named "Vespa" (Italian for "Wasp"), it's not surprising that he would be riding one.

Note: Still being "manufactured" by Piaggio - in Italy. I suspect that a whole lot of Vespa parts are NOT manufactured in Italy

I find it interesting that they mention "Vespa" crash. When was the last time you saw "Cadillac" or "Volkswagen" crash.
