    Keeping up with the Jones's

    ....Or at least the Kirby's.

In light of Rod's recent transportation aquisition, I had to jump off the fence and get serious about finding a 'scooter' of my own! I found 3 of interest locally, one each in San Antonio, Austin, and San Marcos. All were C50 Suziki Boulevards with different accesories. I arranged to meet with the girl that owned the one in Austin after work tomorrow. The owner in San Marcos called me this morning and I went to his apartment after work this evening.

This was the most heavily accessorized of the 3 and the only one that had both the windshield and saddlebags that I wanted. A loan was set up with the credit union before I went to the bike to give me a better bargaining position. His asking price was $6500 and, after both the 'Boss' dropping by to see it and riding it to my bud's motorcycle repair shop for the once over, I offered him $6100. We will go by the credit union Monday morning to finalize the paperwork and get a cashier's check cut As soon as I have that in hand, I will call Darin at work and arrange to close the deal. By noon Monday she should be sitting in my driveway.

After we made the deal, he asked me what size jacket I wore. Said he had a couple of 'official' Boulevard leather jackets and a vest. The vest and men's jacket fit perfectly and the lady's jacket is small enough for the Granddaughter to wear. He threw them in with the deal at no additional cost. The price of the 3 in the Suzuki catalog is ~$700 new. Will have to do some more checking in the catalog and total the cost of all the accessories added to the bike.

In a head on collision with Rod... I'm putting my money on you! And you know it's a lot safer to put on your jacket.. helmet.. have someone take pictures of you sitting on it and then go back in the house and enjoy the AC in this hot and humid we're having down south.

But then again the mail-man must go through.. rain-sleet or snow!

Enjoy and be real careful.. it's you and the bike against "Them".... and you know who them is and the fact they don't think often with cell phone stuck in their ear.

    Enjoy....

It looks as clean as Rod's shop. What a great deal for you!

Enjoy and be careful out there. It is just about time for College to start and you know how crazy the college kids are there in San Marcos.

Only in Texas is "locally" described as a hundred mile circle!

Nice find and a great price. It's all set for cruisin', and plenty of room in dem bags to carry the mail, or a six pack. Is there a trailer hitch and sidecar in the future?

That looks like a great deal - well done! My friend has one very similar in the UK, sissy bar, panniers etc. Very comfortable to ride and be carried on, you'll love it!

Hey now, don't you know. Everything's bigger in Texas! LOL!!!!!

Nice scooter Pappy! Not sure if I would be willing to ride one around these parts with all the insane truckers on the road, but out San Antonio Way sure has lots of pretty scenery to ride through!

                    Pappy - What's the deal?

Do you already have a licence? Do you have to get one?

I'm looking forward to picking it up tomorrow and so I can take it out for a little longer run. Next long weekend off I might make a run up to Wichita Falls just for the fun of it and to check on my step dad.

Rod, I learned to ride on a small Harley dirt tracker when I was about 12. When I left Texas for the Marines in '69 there wasn't a special license for motorcycles. Got my first license while stationed in Yuma, Arizona when I bought a bike in '73. Next time I was home, I had the MC endorsement added to my TX license and have kept it since.

I almost dropped it when I renewed this year. Glad I didn't, the wait for the MC safety classes is running 2-3 months. I may sign up for one anyway, if it will help on the insurance rates.

Sweet ride, Pappy. Next Memorial Day, consider a rode trip to DC & Rolling Thunder. If you're a vet, you may want to looking into the folks at "Run for the Wall" (www.rftw.org). Good bunch, rode with them a few times - their southern route to DC used to take the I-40 through Texas, Nashville and Knoxville before heading north - beautiful ride. I think they now run I-20 through Texas.
