    Widescreen monitor resolution

For those who use widescreen monitors, particularly 19" and up, do you have any resolution problems?
I see a lot of reviews where the folks are not happy with things like stretched images and windows that go off the screen.
I almost purchased an Acer X203Wbd for $170 tonight but held back until I can do more research. I really don't need a 20" but there was free shipping and the price seemed right.
    Thanks all.

I like this Samsung Syncmaster 225bw. I have it running at 1680x1050.

The stretched image and windows that go off of the screen happen when the installed video card doesn't have video modes that are compatible with the video modes of the monitor.

You want to check the video resolutions that your graphic card or integrated video chip is capable of producing and compare those to the capabilities of the monitor. Also check the refresh rates.

If you have an older video card or integrated chip that only supports only resolutions like 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, etc you will either get a rectangular display with black borders on the sides or the monitor my stretch the image to fill the screen.

I have a 24" widescreen and I love it. it runs at 1920x1200 and provides lots of real estate whihc is great for photo editing and graphics work.

As was previously mentioned with the correct driver and graphics card there should be no problems with strangely stretched windows etc.

I dont know if I could ever go back to a smaller screen, its bad enough when I have to use my laptop when on the road.

If you are considering an upgrade just check your graphics card will support the resolution of the monitor you choose and you will have no regrets.

1680 x 1050 on a 19" acer. you have to get the latests drivers to support the wide screen resolutions.

Check for updated drivers for your video card, before buying a new one. I have a 19" widescreen AOC, that I bought when my moniter died (flyback transformer I think). This site shows grey on the sides, as do others, but otherwise pic's look great. (just pointing out a difference between text and pic sites)

OK, thanks to all. That makes sense about the supported resolutions.
However, since I am using a KVM and effectively have 2 different video cards, I'll need to check them both. I don't think I'll get the 20". It would be nice but it is much more than I really need. I'll keep watching for a sale on the 19" wide.

Mine is a 20" widescreen from Samsung. I'm running it at 1680X1050. Looks good to me.
