    Who is this CL buyer

Anyone knows this Jalynn Bennet from jalynnstores@yahoo. com
She responds to some of my offers with "Is the item still available".
My gut feeling is this is not on the level, so I don't respond. Googling her turns up a wide variety of info that is complicated.
BTW,"is the item still available" without any other contact info makes me wary.

Leave another CL ad, WITHOUT your contact information, entitled with her name. Inform her, if it is up, it is still available and to please send her contact information with her question.

That is what I would do with a questionable response.
She couldn't tell the difference between the escape pod, and the bathroom. We had to go back for her.........................Twice.

Hey cabinetman I saw that when I googled. But why would a person of that status browsing Craigslist for a 20yr old Toa A-906 6-chan. 60watts paging amp selling for $100.
        Mmm!!!. See my point.

Sounds like a scam to get your real info.

Well, she is Canadian. Maybe she is trying to take advantage of high exchange rate
On the other hand ... I don't think so!

It's a scam! I used my Gmail to reply, this is what I got back.

I'm happy to know it's still available. I will ask my
assistant to prepare and mail out your payment. And I
am sure you will receive it in the next 6-8 business
days. I'm even willing to add $20 extra for you to
keep it in my favour and also for the delay. Money
Order is the means I will pay you with. If this is
acceptable by you, Send me your info i.e your phone number your full name and address where the payment will be sent to. I
will also make arrangement for pick-up which will be
after you must have received and cashed the money
              order.
              Awaiting your info
              Thanks

The second note definitely says she/he is a scammer. But wouldn't have automatically thought so from the first email. I've written similar emails before on items I was interested in, especially if the ad was old. And I've also gotten those type of emails as well. I usually email back saying the item is or isn't available. If I get a response like you did I mark it as a spam email (although I'm sure they have a hundred more accounts) or if I'm in the mood I'll email them one of those Nigerian princess emails.

I've heard of this beforebut how exactly does it work?
She gets you name, address, phone number and e-mail address.
Does she then steal your identity? Buy stuff in your name?

All those four pieces of "info" is not that hard to get..., why go to the trouble of scammingand leaving a scant trail?

The emails I've gotten usually say they're "associate" will give you a check for the item. And supposedly if you initially check the account there is sufficient funds in the account. But when your bank goes to actually retrieve the funds, guess what. Anytime someone wants to pay by check just automatically assume it's a scam.

well in this case they said they would pay by money order. and who would scam for an old PA amp? Scammers usually want to steal stuff they can turn in a hurry. I'm not saying its not a scammer, I actually believe it is, but I'm failing to see how they will try and take advantage of you.

FAKE money order. It looks real, but it takes the bank a while to find that out.

They say something to the order of "ship it to here, and I am sending you x amount more to cover your shipping, just take the cost, shipping and a conveinence fee out, and send the item and change to", ONE method.

Another is have someone drop off a bad m/o, CC and pick up the item (friend told me about a $4k jet ski this happened with last week)

Another, you still have the item, but you have sent them the change from a bogus cc, m/o. (your out bank fee's, the money you sent, etc).

                        There are a few more.

So in this case, would the scammer's "associate" send a bogus but real looking money order that would be for much more than the negotiated amount, then the scammer would ask for the difference back on a credit card or check or something?

Yup there are all kinds of ways of scaming.

There are several sites dedicated to reporting and attempting to identify scamers and put them out of business,

My favorites are those people that scam the scamers. If you have time for some enjoyable reading check these out:
