    Selling on Craigslist

Has anyone sold something on Craigslist before? I have had a few bites on a planer and started thinking about how I am going to get paid. Is cash generally the expected payment form? I can't imagine taking a check, and it seems like there are all these scams on money orders. What is left? Paypal account? I appreciate any suggestions.

I have sold several items on craigslist and the only time I accepted a check it turned out the buyer was a guy I knew. Everything else has been via cash. I also tend to meet in public places, especially when buying and I am carrying large amounts of cash.

Cash from people not living within spittin' distance. I have had a local guy take a check from me (local bank).

Mostly cash, but we sold our van a few weeks ago and took a cashdown payment, then check for the balance, but it was from a legitimate non-porfit local business.

Cash on the barrel-head, boys. Anything else, and you are asking for trouble.

Cash or nothing. Unless one of my close friends happened upon one of my postings I guess. I won't even entertain any other form of payment. I have only been asked one time and I told them, "Sure, we can do a check. What bank do you use? We can meet in the parking lot at about 3pm and you can go in there and make it out for the cash you are going to give me." Either they were trying to rip me off or did not appreciate my sarcastic response because they did not respond.

I put a Uni-saw on Criags-list last night around 10 PM. With a note of the weight and pick up at my shop.. The last line was:

                CASH & CARRY...

It sold about 10:30 PM.. and by sold I mean it was committted too. Until I have CASH in my hand.. it is still mine.

Don't be bashful about getting cash.. if they really want it they will not only understand but... bring CASH. Just make it clear from the beginning and don't accept any, "darn... I forgot to bring the cash.. would you accept a check"?

No.. and don't come back until you have CASH.

                Good luck

Cash only for amounts few hundred dollars to a thousand or less. Like a planer.
Maybe take a cashiers check for large amounts (e.g auto) if you can call the bank and confirm its legit.
No personal checks unless you know the guy.

Even for an auto I took only cash - they wanted the car, so they brought cash. If they can't find a way to get cash then they probably don't have it. I am even wary of a cashiers check, but that's just me.
