    Rockler Rocks!

I received the 50% off coupon like a lot of you guys so Saturday morning I drive to my local Rockler (20 miles) grab a HVLP sprayer and sit it on the counter along with my coupon.

The guy at the register say I can't use it on this and I ask "Why Not, it's on Summer Clearance?". He explains that that "Clearance" isn't the same as this Clearance". So I get in my car and head back home a little angry. But I figured if it sounds too good to be true, it most likely is.

This morning I send Rockler an E-mail explaining my frustration and a little while ago I get a call from the store manager. They are going to send me the sprayer for the discounted price!

I kept telling the guy (who's name is Guy) that he doesn't need to do it, I just wanted to let the people who write the ads that they need to keep things a little more clear.

He kept saying it's not a problem, so I'm getting a HVLP sprayer.

How cool is that?! Did you send the email to the corporate address? That might tell the tale as to why the manager got involved.

Had a similar experience with Woodcraft. After being lied to by employees regarding an in-store order of major equipment, and then basically being told "that's tough..." by the store owner, I called the WC home office, and shortly thereafter, the store owner called me, suddenly ready to jump through his own butt...

See, now that's just wierd. One of the big benefits of owning a franchise is that the corporate advertising brings people into the store. It's just a downright shame to go to all the trouble get someone in your store then treat him badly.

          People unclear on the concept...

Funny isn't it how time after time after time Rockler customers misinterpret their ads. If you ask me Rockler does this kind of stuff over and over again on purpose. Either that or they're just dumb as rocks. Yet another example of why I don't shop there unless I absolutely, positively have to.

Not only that, but this guy doesn't feel that he needs to have an item in stock just because it happens to be taking up half of the front page on the current sale flyer... Says it's his danm store, and he'll carry what he wants to... Then says he won't order one unless paid in advance... Then doesn't really order any of them (despite telling me he has) until he has enough orders in hand to get himself a better discount... See where I'm going with this??

                  Rockler Rocks

I would have to say that the bad press from the rockler stores is definatly that, bad press from the store itself.

I have been to mine, and I can't say that I have once been turned down on specials.

Once I got the flyer to Join the Rockler rewards club that had a 20% off on one item. The small print read that it would be the cheapest Item. I went in and bought several small things, such as a square set, several other small parts, and the Icra Miter 3000 SE , and the store owner gave me the discount on the Icra product even though it was ~$270!

Another time I saw the same guy spend 1/2 hour helping some one else sort through a pile of cut off wood, to help him get enough for a project he was doing, even though the guy was going to end up spending less money at the store because of his help.

It looks like that store has it figured out. The guy may have spent less money right there and then, but I'm sure it paid off in the long run. It made an impression on you too.

I still haven't been a rockler yet. There's one about 20 minutes away from me, but it is in a direction I never really need to go.

Most of us are not complaining about a store, but how we are being shafted when we don't have a near-by store and have to deal with the parent company over the 'net.

I just placed an order from the July 2008 catalog and the prices for a couple of items where not the same. They would not honor the price like lowes or home depot would have and they sent me their disclaimer statement. What really surprised me is that it was only a $2 difference. I think I would understand it a bit more if it was $50 or something more significant.

I visit my local Rockler often (in SoCal) and have always found them to be helpful and flexible, trying on their own to calculate what is "fair" in a transaction, not what matches the (often conflicting) coupons and store specials. I have never had to "hammer" anyone (no pun intended!) to feel like I was treated fairly. They do a great job, in my opinion.

I a lucky that my local Rockler is only 2 miles away. I am in there sometimes 3 times a week and most of the guys know me so they are usually pretty good with coupons. The owner seems rarely to be in store I have only met him twice. The other week I had a coupon for an item that ran out on sunday but they were out of stock. They said they would have a delivery in the week but when I went back they said the coupon had run out!! 2 of the guys remebered me being in there the previous Sunday but them being out of stock. The owner happened to be there and gave me what I wanted at the coupon price.

I think in general their coupons and offers are pretty clear. They state wether its online or instore and that already "on-sale" items are excluded. This seems pretty fair to me.
