    Who is this famous person

    Here's a slightly older picture:

If you want a hint, there's a sad anniversary coming up on Wednesday.

For another hint, here's his self-penned epitaph, posted near his grave in Idaho:

Best of all he loved the fall
The leaves yellow on the cottonwoods
Leaves floating on the trout streams
    And above the hills
    The high blue windless skies
Now he will be a part of them forever
    Jeff

Wow... 3 minutes... that was too tough...

(Hint: Ya gotta change the filenames on the pictures first...)

Never occurred to me to look at the pic filenames. I searched the first line of the epitaph.

          Yep, Hemingway. Check here: http://www.svguide.com/f05/f05_hemingway.htm

There is a great photo of him crouching as he is hunting which I would have liked to have posted but thought better of it. You can find it at the link posted above. I have mixed emotions about him. A tragic figure (to coin a phrase - let's not get into the use of 'tragic').

yeah, you know how the forums displays the first few lines of a post when you mouse-over the title? Well I saw www.wiki.....ernesthemmingwaybabypicture.jpg as the very first thing even before the page opened.... sort of gave away your guessing game.

His son turned 80 on Saturday. Heard it on NPR while out in the shop.

He killed himself July 2, 1961. He was a great writer and a tragic figure in the sense that he thought he could outwrite, outfight and outlast anything in life. Unfortunately, he came up against severe depression and the limitations of getting older and decided to end things on his own terms.

I went on a reading binge of Lost Generation writers once. Hemingway was certainly the greatest of them, but in a small way. His style revealed much with few words. HIs impact on English letters was as significant as any previous writer, IMHO.

As an homage, I will write in Hemingway style for the remainder of the week.

Does that mean you will get drunk, fire up a Havana, throw your keyboard out the window, and go look for a place to fish?

                        LOL! Mabye!

That sure sounds better than the flight to Calgary tomorrow afternoon. Or perhaps I should have written....

The keyboard, and its spelling errors, was no longer a problem. It was lying in the street, Qs and Rs and punctiation scattered like the Scrabble pieces after LOHL beat him that time. Juan would know what to do. It would involve a Cubano. It always did. And maybe too much of that awful rum he liked. If there was skipjack, though, roasted in a pit on the beach, like the old days, Calagary would be forgotten. Flat Calgary, with the late flights and meetings that go on until the mind is just a little numb.
