    So, now I'm 60.....

    So yesterday I hit 60.

    60!

Don't physically feel any different. But 60 sure has a mental effect.

That's old, d*** it! Oh well....

    Gifts from LOML:

    - $100 Beall's gift card (for new clothes - she won't buy mine - and I asked for it)

    - New pair of shorts (old ones don't fit - haven't been able to exercise much since November - and sat around the house for 6 week eating - gained too much)

    - a BIG child's swimming pool (looked at that - uh huh, hmmmm - went to WM for a pump to blow it up - filled with H2O - I LOVE IT!!!!! - spent 3 hours sitting in it (and other stuff) with LOML) - specially great seeing LOML in a swim suit - oh momma! - she sure does look good for being 59!)

Took Friday off (always do for my BD) - renewed driver's license - eye exam - new glasses - almost $500 - oh well - gotta be able to see, right?

Ah well, if I live another 5-6 years I'll be happy. Retire at 62 (IF the G** D*** stock market gets better (switched investements in November so we're not losing but not gaining much either - stagnant the past 3-4 weeks)) - have 3-4 years of doing "my thing" (whatever the heck that is) - OK.

I hate to break it to you but chances are you'll live for another 30 years or so. At least that's what I remember from the mortality tables.

My wife is 62 and still has the energy of a teenager. Besides, you're only as old as the woman you feel.

Well, it seems like you made out O.K. If you think it takes a toll mentally, wait another 10 years. Enjoy it while you can.

        Congratulations!
Both of my parents turned 60 this year also. Neither have been sitting in the pool though.

In the middle of my 60th year, the "going and going" began to get to me. I would do 9 to 12 hour days 5 & 6 days a week - 2 or 3 times a month and it began to wear me out. It takes me whole 2 days to recover from that now. I enjoy my work and want to do more, but can't.

Paul, now is a good time to start learning how to enjoy retirement, even if you do work "a couple of days a week" after retirement for the fun of it.

I know that I will continue my work after retirement - even though I will greatly cut it back.

          HAPPY 61st Year!

Happy 40th Birthday! (Assuming that it's true when they say that "60 is the new 40"...of which I am neither)

                Hey Paul,

I'm turning 61 in July, but I'm now counting backwards, so I'll be 59. Feel like I'm still 35, with a few minor exceptions (my hair, my weight, wrinkles, memory, getting up in the middle of the night to pee, and so on.

But seriously, as the wife says, "You can grow old, just don't grow up." But she also says "Your mind is the second body part to stop working."

Anyway, happy birthday. You deserve it.

Seeing as I'm usually the oldest in LOML's and my group of friends( and I get reminded of that often), I think I like hanging here with this crowd.

Welcome to the club, Paul. I turned 61 a month ago. I remember a year ago approaching 60 and for the first time a "decade" BD affected me: OMG, I'm gonna be old! Funny thing is as soon as the date past, it didn't bother me. BEING 60 wasn't as bad as THINKING about being 60.

Belated Happy B'day.. Doc. Been busy and almost missed the party. I turn 61 in October if I make it that long but don't really pay much attention to birthdays these days. I kind of have the mindset that every day I wake up breathing is an extended original birthday and just try to squeeze as much time out of a day as I can.

Best of wishes becoming an old man as many of us have already. One day you are young and vibrant... you wake up the next day at 60 and you are ancient. Instead of you chasing dinosaurs... the dinosaurs chase you.

                            Best wishes for many more...

                              Well, happy birthday!

Not sure why you are thinking only 5 or 6 more years, unless you have a family history and health issues...

I hit the 4-0 mark in a couple of months, and mentally I feel like a kid most of the time, I still try to get out and do the things I did back then, but last time I got on my skateboard (I still have the skate board I made in high school wood shop, oak veneer lamination, concave with a kick tail and nose, with Urethane wheels and bushings, stainless bearings on Independent trucks...) I ended up getting stitches... I wake up and make noises my dad used to make... But I have an advantage. My Dad's experience..

Ah well... The time out of the shop this summer will likely be spent paddling the bayous with friends... Funny thing is, now there are a string of teenage ducklings as it were paddling along behind us. The single canoe or pair of kayaks strapped to a Toyota Corolla of years gone by, has morphed into a trailer full yanked by a my pickup, followed by the minivan full of kids...

Is it just me, or did life go in unexpected directions for everybody?
