    Had to pack it in.

Was working outside the shop refinishing the deck and making a new step. I am also removing the gravel from the path in preperation for puting down flag stone. I had to quit and come inside for the rest of the day. The smoke from all the brush fires burning around us and very little breeze to blow the smoke away finially got to me. Evidently there we over 500 fires started over the week end by dry lightening strikes and as the is little breeze and Sacramento is in a valley the smoke is settling in over us. The Sun was a bright Orange this morning when it was coming up. Thank God it is going to be cooler today, only 90F but the weather people the smoke will last untill the fires are out or the wind picks up.

I have very mild COPD from smoking and it started to bother me. I feel for those who have severe breathing or other lung problems. They are advising everybody possible to stay indoor and run the AC, so that what I will do. Time to read the latest issure of Woodcraft or Shopnote whatever one came yesterday. Stormdog how you doing over on the east side?

    Tom

I know California is a big state, but it seems there is always something going on. Wildfires, rockslides, earthquakes, you name it. Sorry to hear you were driven inside. Those with severe respiration problems must really have it rough.

As with small particulates in the shop the ones carried in the smokey smell are invisible and the most important. You did the right thing, Tom; COPD or not, staying outside would have been foolish.

If your only tool is a hammer, you tend to treat all problems as if they were nails.

I feel for ya, Tom. I know when we have our fires here in the FL, it gets very difficult, even if one has healthy respiration.

Try as we might to focus on all those negative stories, the population is now nearly 40 million.

It sucks here, people! Do not come to California! Stay where you are (if you have a pfd)!

I wasn't in Respritory distress or anything like that not even coughing, but buring eyes and a little soreness in the throat made me decide enough is enough. If I had AC in the shop (coming this weekend) I could have go in there. I use a dust mask or Respirator when working in there depending on what I am doing but this was just misriable and why risk it. I am retired so I don't have be out in it. At least we don't have the severe weather that gets the Medwest, South and East Coast. This is the second year of little rain or a long rainy season, no rain since early Feb. so it is going to be a long hot summer. JR your right we don't need any more people, the state is screwed up and not getting any better. I should have left at the top of the real estate market and moved to Idaho like we thought about. The only reason we didn't was our health insurance is fully paid here and they don't have Kaiser in the Boise area of Idaho. If we would have moved to Idaho I could have had a 40 x40 shop if I wanted and have gold woodworking tools instead of HF green, but that is life so here I am. Bad thing is Boise is in a valley like Sacramento and gets smokey, smoggy there duing the summer and winter when they get the inversion layer.
