Up there we had to mow maybe 3 months in the years. Down here it's roughly 6 months, and down around Cabinetman I wouldn't be surprised nearly 8 months! lol Besides Doug, we got gators and you don't....
The bio just has the places I've lived long enough to owe people money.

I moved where I am is because I like to live where there is nothing that can eat me. I don't mind getting gnawed on a bit, but I draw the line at gators, wolves, bears and Minnesota mosquitoes - anything that can swallow me whole.

I will cede to you and Cabinetman that unlike your grass, ours makes a lousy industrial abrasive. Do you usually start with Zoysia and then finish with St. Augustine or is it the other way around? I can never remember...

Doug, because of lack of rain, I'll settle

for weeds in my yard to mow!. Here's a couple of pics to show how dry we are. We had St. Augustine awhile back but it dried up. Even though we are in the physical location of the Green Swamp, everything is drying up.

And I need to apologize to "newood2" for corrupting his thread. If I had a small lot, yes I would buy/use and electrical mowing system.

We have the remington power mower, bought it this year. It's a 60V battery rechargable that can also be run on the cord. I've mowed with it a bunch, always on the battery. It does a fine job. You really only get about 45 minutes to an hour with a charge, but that's ok by me, I do it in sections. It's really a boon for the wife, since I'm horridly allergic, she likes to help out, with the gas mower it was a huge effort for her. She gets home first, and would try and start up the old hog, gave her troubles. This thing starts like a dream, never an issue, and because of the easy start of it, the design requires that you are holding onto a lever to keep it running. Makes it really hard to get your feet in the way of the thing without it just turning off.

We mow to about 3", usually weekly, though some weeks twice as it's SO FREAKIN HUMID AND RAINY at the moment. The next gen of these rechargable mowers is going to be the duck's guts though, super capacitor bank based, solves many of the problems with current battery tech. The charge won't hold as long, but recharge will be fast, and they'll last longer than batteries.

Well, we took a few tangents, but I do think there have been a lot of helpful comments amongst the noise. Wouldn't be much fun (or informative) if the only answers were yes or no.

We had the one flood night with more than 5" of rain in 2 hours and at least some rain just about every day since.
