    Xp Sp3 - Cool!

In my case, no problems at all.

MS Update Install (to reboot) = 46 mins. "Software Update Installation Wizard" shows progress. Reboot ~= 10 minutes - lots of "stuff" happens.

Patience is the key - it all ends up clean - no action required.

Everything that worked before still works!

Faster Program loads - Word, Excel, Trend Micro, Nero, iSeries etc., etc.

I like the faster program loads. But can anyone tell me if things don't go well, is it easy enough to get back to where you were before the download?

I went to the SP3 download site and they say there aren't any significant
      changes.

      What gives?

        Ed62, there's a restore option in XP

that will start your system from a point in time earlier on. I'm not familiar with it, but some of the readers maybe able to help you locate that function. Sorry could not be of more help.

Yeah, I'm familiar with that. It's a great thing. But I didn't know if it would take care of something like this. Thanks for the reply.

Vista, is that Bill Gates has extented the support for XP till 2010 because Vista not being welcomed by many. I've read both pro and con for Vista, but XP does a great job as is...

It's funny, Microsoft just keeps pissing me off with OS releases. XP was a polished up version of 2000, so I thought 'gee, why charge us all 300+$ for the same OS?'

Then Vista came out, they actually did a significant amount of work on Vista, unfortunately they dropped Direct Sound support, no many games won't work on it. For a while they were considering not supporting OpenGL, which is a huge deal breaker for me, fortunately the video card companies picked up the slack there. And they used strong arm tactics with games as the source of power to try and force the PC gaming community into Vista. (no dx 10 support in Xp, though the same features are exposed in OpenGL on 2000/xp)

So if you are a gamer (or game developer such as me), you need to upgrade to Vista for geometry shader access in direct X, but tons of your current games are going to stop working. And, of course, Vista is slower by 10% across the board in game execution.

It's now wonder OS X is making gains in the market.

I wish I could get a copy of the OS X that runs on Intel and try it on the high end box I have.

As it was installing, I noticed a "Restore point" build - obviously I didn't need it

I have only heard of one person happy with Vista, so far. They are more computer literate, then the average person I deal with though (check compatiblity, BEFORE a purchase). They also kept their XP machine (loaded with what it was) and have a Linux machine. Vista is JUST a Direct X game machine.

Vista is more of a memory hog, they are dropping their own touted ball with Direct sound support (not to mention I am a fan of OpenGL), and they announced a while back, that none of the current machines would be Direct X 10.1 capable.
I don't have the time to game like I used to, so I won't even consider a game machine until Direct X 10.1 or I (look) and find out if my game(s) of choice are available, on a Linux compatible, PS3 platform.
