    Political correctness

The following was the winning entry from an annual contest at Texas A & M University calling for the most appropriate definition of a contemporary term. This year's term was "Political Correctness."

"Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end."

That's good. But I think it sounds better and easier to follow and quote if you drop off the two qualifier phrases in the middle and shorten to

"Political Correctness is a doctrine which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end."

            Loring,

I wonder if I would get in trouble using that as my signature on my work emails

              Ain't language wonderful?
It would not be politically correct to be impolite, or political to mention politics in this forum. Or please use a pooper scooper.

I worked for the State of Californian where Political Correctness was the Mantra. One of the best things I found when I retired I could asked someone to hand me the Dikes instead of the Diaoginal Cutters. That was an example as I got a Letter of Reprimand for that statement and got in more trouble for telling them what I thought of it and then framing the letter and putting in on my desk. That was a term I had used all my life when work on cars or wiring.

As to Tom's statement about dikes, I too came

under the gun about that word and the word "peckerhead". I am a retired electrician and got myself jammed up with the people in the office one day when I told them that the peckerhead was missing on one of the grove pumps. A peckerhead is the termination box cover on the side or end of large electrical motors. Monkey wrench also is taboo as well as some other words and phrases used in the fields. Political correctness, is (here I don't say anything because my post will be censored again and that blah, blah, blah).

We got in trouble for labeling things as "NFG" when they are broke at work. It took a while for someone to figure it out.

Never got in trouble for dikes and monkey wrench, but had a female coworker rake me over the coals for using male and female for electrical connectors. Even showing her the terms in an electronics catalog didn't make any difference to her.

That's what I've always called them.

OK, all the electrical awarees may have heard the term "tombstones".

How about the finite measurement "RCH".

How about the military caps known as "C caps", which aren't used anymore, I don't think.

How about that tasty food "s**t" on a shingle.

How about boots with pointy toes called "PFC".

And one I could never figure out was in high school, guys that wore white socks were called "hoops".

We live on a small body of water named Coon Bay. Of course some of the PC newcomers tried to get it changed. The Raccoons objected and they might have selectively raided some garbage cans.

I almost caused my boss to have a heart attack when after all the dust had cleared and I came back form a 2 day suspension, I asked for the pair of Debbies. I all ready knew any chance of my career going any higher was over, and I retired a year latter. The last couple of years I was working, with the people they were hiring and electing it got so bad that it became a joke but scary also. Another case of things going to the extreme. The whole thing was it was a pay back because I had given a person a bad performance report and she didn't get her raise, it was nothing about race, gender or seuality, this person was a bad worker and I told the truth, but she needed to get back a me other wise nothing would have happened. When, a compaint is filed you are guilty until proven inocent, but I admited to what I had said about the side cutters but it didn't matter because of the political climate and my bosses could have gotter in trouble if they hadn't done something, my big mistake was not keeping my mouth shut and letting it go. The magic term in these situation is "A Hostile Work Environment" that all it takes. Forget common sense. Would I do it differently? no I uses a term that was a normaly part of my job, she heard it in passing and didn't even work in that area and no she wans't a lesbian. My point in all this how things can go to an extreme is some cases. As a supervisor I had all the training in that kind of stuff and the type of person I am, would never go out of my way to hurt or cause pain to someone. The end of the story was great. Two years after I retired she was fired for fraud and lieing about her citizenship, someone didn't do a through background check when she was hired 10 years before and when she was under invistigation for fraud it came up. This is a true story My BIL was one of the investigating Officers infact is was his last case before he retired. He didn't tell me until after he retired, and we smoked a big cigar and had a nice bottle of Cabranet.
