IMHO FWW is an absolute must, I also subscribe to their site which gives access to all their back issue articles and reviews etc in downloadable form. I also have a subscription to "Wood." I have been considering others such as Shopnotes but am not sure if I need yet another magazine lying around for LOML to complain about

I have over 10' of magazine boxes on the top of my home office book shelves. In date order and labeled. I need more room!!

I have complete sets of Wood and FWW, and many American WW, Woodsmith, WW Journal, Shopnotes, Handyman and others.

Let me know if you ever need a specific article.

Fine Woodworking, WOOD, and ShopNotes usually get mentioned the most. Woodsmith is another many like; it's a sister publication to ShopNotes, with more of an emphasis on actual projects. At the moment I subscribe to WOOD and my current favorite, Woodworking Magazine, which only recently started offering subscriptions. It's a relatively new quarterly from the same people who publish Popular Woodworking. I will buy the occasional issue of various others off the newsstands, and like Jon I have paid access to FWW's online archives.

But it really all depends on what your interests are and, perhaps, your level of expertise. For example, many say that FWW is too advanced for them, while others say it provides great inspiration regardless of one's personal woodworking skills. You might try some forum searches, as this question comes up frequently.

Hardly anyone seems to like Woodworker's Journal. Too many ads, not enough usable content.

The best thing to do is persue the various titles on the newsstands, buy a few issues on a trial basis, and figure out which one "speaks" to you the best. This can take a while, since most titles are published only six times a year.

I would echo Larry’s comments. The first three mentioned and Woodsmith too are good.

I find FWW a good read. Some of the projects are pretty advanced for me, but it is nice to see some of the techniques used. I really like the photos of the awesome examples of crafted work. There are some really good tips and jigs in there too.

I get quite a few subscriptions. Woodworker's Journal is one of them too; I still find it a decent resource. Just when I am thinking of not renewing, I'll run across some good tips or jigs. It isn’t near as good as the others, but I like getting all the information I can get.

I’ve got a bunch of those cardboard magazine holders. They used to reside in my office bookshelves, but they have since migrated to the bedroom floor. A lot of my architecture library has come home from the office and a set of Sweets. Most of the wood material gets read in bed too. I need to make another bookshelf for the bedroom and get some more holders. Some of the loose stacks are getting tall.

I subscribe to / buy quite a few magazines, and rarely ever get rid of old issues due to the value of the information in many of them. My magazine collection includes.

              Wood Magazine.
              Shop Notes
Petersens 4 Wheel & Off Road
              American Rifleman
              Field & Stream
              Outside

I keep them in office moving boxes in the closet for now. I believe it was an issue of Shop Notes not too long ago that had plans for box jointed magazine holder boxes. I figure doing something like that would be really nice, but with dovetails instead...

I have some here and some there, LOML moves them and tries to keep them in one place. I move them back to where I will be reading them. She moves them, I move them back. Ad Naseum.

Another good magazine that hasn't been mentioned is Woodwork www.woodwork-mag.com It is along the same lines as FWW, and for some reason I like it better.

I find that a bunch of them kept in the bathroom works wonders for the digestive system.

I have a bunch in a cabinet in our family room (behind doors), a bunch by my recliner, and another bunch in a bookshelf in the basement (lower ones have to be behind doors because of our cat). A project I have not gotten to yet is to build in some bookshelves in the basement. I have a little room that would be good for it but I just haven't decided to do it. Part of my hessitation is I haven't seen a design I really like. I would have to have doors on the bottom but I don't want it to be deep - I am only interested in storing books and the room is irregular in shape so I do not want the storage to jut out into the room.

Lets see if I can remember where all of ours are. Well there is a large stack in our bathroom, on my vanity area which I can't use, and then there is the magazine rack Mark made a few years ago and then I believe that out in a couple of storage areas I have a large plastic storage box that is full of magazines that Mark has. But the important ones are in the bathroom .
