I'm with you there. I don't know how I still have my license. Many moons ago, I was caught going 104 in a 70mph area. This was in 1998 on Route 19 in West Virginia, right after they had widened the whole thing. They had finished paving about 3 days before, smooth as a baby's bottom. Even after getting the ticket, I had to work real hard not to speed, it was so nice.

I was headed back to college at the time, so when the ticket came my father called the municipality and was told the fine was $121! That's it! Needless to say, he paid it over the phone. He got a call a few weeks later from a very grumpy magistrate. My dad apparently talked to the new hire who looked at the age-old ticket calculation sheet. The magistrate usually sets the rate based upon a more current calculation plus his own judgement (in WV, things like reckless driving can be thrown in easily, apparently), but since we were told $121 he had to honor it. On top of that, points never got report to PA - it would have been 90 days suspension, plus a review before a police board of commissioners to re-acquire it. Yikes!

Been clean for about 3 years now. Of course, now my wife decides to try and smash our brand new car a few times, so our insurance won't be going down as much as we thought

Around here, if you're caught going 50km/h( around 30 mph) over the speed limit, you're considered as street racing. You lose your car, lose your license, and get hit with a bazillion dollar fine.

Clean for several years now. As long as Texas lets you take defensive driving to keep tickets from hitting your record every 2 years, it will stay that way.

C-Man, when I joined the Corps in 69 Texas didn't require a license for a motorcycle. Had to test in Arizona in '72. Still keep the endorsement even though I haven't ridden in several years.

Best run in with the law...'68 running in the wee hours from Shreveport/Bosier City to Dallas on I-20 in a 56 Chevy, got pulled over by a State Trooper. First question, "Do you know how fast you were going?" "No, Sir. Twisted the cable about 10 miles from the state line." "147, get out of the car!" Had me pop the hood and we talked cars for a half hour. After that he told me I had 10 more miles of 'his' highway and if I went one mile over the limit, he would throw away the key. When he flashed the beacons and made a U turn, I dropped to second and smoked the tires!
