    I Can Weld!

Was changing the blades on the mower tonight. I disconnected the positive lead from the battery. Did the blade change, then went to reconnect and got the wrench too close to the mower body. After the sparks were done the wrench was stuck to the mower. Oopsie.

Been there done and number of times. Isn't it exciting? How did you get the wrench off? and lastly how high did you jump and did you change you shorts?

It is exciting. I wacked it with a wood hammer handle. Figured just in case it was insulated. About 3" and no, didn't have to.

There is a chunk missing from the mower under the seat. And my socket wrench now has some red metal permanently stuck to it.

Now mark each pice in the set the same way and you can claim it's a custom ID system. Might be hard to explain why you need a new body on the mower...

BTW tip: If you disconnect ground first and reconnect it last, you will not have that problem. Unless you cross the terminals directly...

Exactly. Same technique as should be used on cars...

My first welding escapade was installing a screwdriver in a service panel. That was about 25 years ago. I wonder if it's still there.

Did that define a shorts changing moment?

My son was changing out his battery a year ago and managed to put the wrench right across the terminals. He brought me the wrench all slagged expecting me to yell at him. Instead he got
                    "Did you learn something today?"
"Yes, I need to pay more attention sometimes."
"You also need to pay for a new wrench, I'll expect the same make and size replaced." He was decidely unhappy.

Yeah I know better. I should have done that.
