    Massad Ayoob

With some of the recent gun questions lately, I thought I post a link to some of Massad Ayoob articles.

I believe this is pushing the envelope on political discussion.

The last two posts on guns posted by anna were pushing the envelope on the guns, politics and religion disscussions but an awful lot of you people participated and nothing was said. This is one reason I'm not very active on here is because of your selectivity of forbidden subjects.

I was actually very impressed by the conversations of firearms- good and reasonable advice was given and very little political stuff got interjected. Says alot for this forum and the members here. It would have degenerated very quickly on several other forums I've been a part of.

There's a world of difference between the mentioned earlier posts by Anna and this one.
The earlier ones sought advice on purchasing guns, or specific technicalities about guns, and nothing beyond that.

The blog linked from the OP above is only political, nothing else. There's no way anybody can comment on it and stay a-political.

While a majority of us here enjoy our collective impartiality and contribute to it, I'm sure some might think we are not so impartial. Obviously, the web is wide enough for them be not very active here, no loss to either side.

Actually, he didn't link directly to articles by the author he mentioned. The link he provided leads to a lot of authors writing on various topics, including making rugs, homemade toys, and portable sawmills. Let's not beat up on the OP too bad...I found some interesting stuff on that site! Anyone can choose to ignore the gun stuff if they so please.

I don'tsee how someone posting a link to a site that happens to have several articles written by a professional star witness for the defense and a former LEO is political. Perhaps there is a political point of view espoused on the linked site but the OP was not sending us there for the politics.

Wayne, there is no request to avoid discussion on guns or even gun ownership. Gun Control on the other hand, unless you define gun control as precise sight alignment, is out of bounds and is political in nature. I can see in the one topic where politics was several times touched upon but no flames were started. Had the topic turned ugly it would have been shut down. In Anna's second topic I did not see anything even remotely close to the line. "Us people" enjoyed the conversation as many of us do in many of the discussions on this board.

Thanks you for respecting the forum owner's rules. I'm pretty sure you will find that there is widespread agreement that it is because of the selective rules that has attracted many to our site.

I, being the gun-ignorant one (although not as ignorant as before I started the two gun threads), would like to thank the OP for posting the link.

Although I hope I will never find the need to build a log crib or even make a quilt out of Levis, Ayoob's articles do center on the questions I have been asking the last several days, namely on common sense about burglary prevention and on firearms and cold weather considerations. Not to mention that heated topic on how big a gun do you need.

Of course it's also interesting that cheap guns are good enough. I'm a woman and I like my bargains.

So thanks for the original link, Rusty. I'm looking forward to learning more about all sorts of things.

I guess my definition of gun control is different from yours, with a discussion about "concealed carry laws" and how they vary from state to state is very much a discussion about gun control and that was pretty much the jest of the first thread .No need to censor this or me I've made my point and it is pretty accurate and as some of you said I don't have to participate and no loss to ya'll.

In response to what is "politically correct", I think some of you are getting ( pun intended) "Gun Shy".

I'm sure if we look hard enough at a lot posts, we all can find some things to get pissed-off about.

For instance, in any discussion of tools imported from China, that are of extremely poor construction and are referred to as "crap", does this amount to condemming an entire country? I'll bet someone would get their nose bent out of joint and consider it un-PC.

Are we all getting so delicate that gun ownership and self-defense are now to be considered verboten (German for forbidden!).

The reason for this thread appears to be totally unjustified, I don't see anyone forcing me to go to a link, and reading something I'd prefer not to.

Some of you guys just totally amaze me.

Just to set the record straight I agree with your's and most of the other posts in this thread.I've yet to open a thread since haveing registered on this site that has offended me because of the content, but when members let a post go on as long as anna's first thread went and then raise a stink over what rusty posted thats BS.These same people get pretty close to the "verboten" subject matter theirselves with some of their posts.
I guess my original post was my way of saying if your going to live in a glass house you sure as h##l should'nt throw rocks.

                            Stupid me.

I avoid the thread, assuming by the title there would be some sort of anti-arabic infrerence that would get me and everyone else fired up. Only to discover that Mr. Ayoob is an articulate 2nd ammendment advocate, whose opinions are sure to get everyone fired up.

Sometimes I feel like I'm adrift in a sea of ironies.

Any topics that have been gun related have been nothing more than idle conversation, questions and answers. Nobody has made it political, caused a riot ,etc. Let sleeping dogs lie..

Striving to be PC makes life boring. Next we will have the joke police, ban listing any tools by name, etc. As usual, if you don't believe in a topic, stay out of it or ignore it. Your values are YOUR values, keep it that way. Let the moderators or owner of the site weed out the questionable content.
