    55th Anniversary

    55 Years married, to the same woman. She's got to be a saint!!
    April 7, 1953, two weeks before we emigrated to Canada from Holland with $60 between the two of us in our pockets. That was all you were able buy at the bank, because of a severe shortage of foreign currency as a result of the war, no international trade: no foreign currency. Particularly American and Canadian dollars.
    We did just fine.
    Worked hard, raised a big family and guess what, I still love her and I know she loves me.
    I'm a lucky man!

      Way to go Tim. Congrats to you and the missus. Luckey to see couples making half of that these days. Obviously you two knew what you were doing when you found each other.

          Anniversary Toast

          Here's a toast to the two of you
          As you celebrate together;
          You're the poster kids for happiness,
          In sunny or stormy weather.

          Your love continues, warm and bright;
          May it shine throughout the years;
          You’re an example for the rest of us,
          So here’s to you: Three cheers!

                  Wow, congradulations are certainly in order.

                  I used one of those online inflation calculators (here) and put in 1953 as the year, $60 as the initial value, and it said that in 2008 dollars it would be equal to $475. So wow! $60 isn't much money today and it wasn't actually that much money back then, either!

                  I think you are both very lucky.

                  Have any words of wisdom for us?

                      Fifty-Five Years? That is one of the, if not the, longest sentences I've seen reported here!

                      Congratulations and hopes for another 55.

                        Congrats to Mr. and Mrs. Tim. In a little less than 5 years I'll be able to write most of what you wrote (but we didn't emigrate). Here's to quite a few more good years together for both of you.

                        You said you had a large family. How many little ones?
