    Are You Old Enough?

My first drive-in memory is my parents getting us into our pajamas and taking us. Fell asleep somewhere during the second movie. Remember the playground up front under the screen? Got to play there when I got older.

Then there were the steamed window years. During the Woodstock film we all turned up every speaker in the parking lot. Some of us even tried to sync our 8 tracks to the music.

Last one I remember was in Minot ND around 1980. Was kind of glad they were gone by the time my daughter became old enough to date.

Yeah we have a few. There is one that is a mega entertainment establishment.

The Swap Shop Drive-In opened in 1963 as the Thunderbird Drive-In. This is not your average drive-in theater. This drive-in, located on 88 acres of property has 13 movie screens, a flea market, a circus, amusement rides, and a video arcade. It is open 365 days a year.

Two in NE Ohio that I know about. I went a few years ago just to remember. Found that the car seat was not as comfortable as my lazy boy and the sound wasn't anything near my surround sound.

Overall I decided that those memories should be in the past!

Seems like yesterday. I think there are still a couple of them left somewhere in Indiana.

We still have one near by. I don't think there are many left. I did a search and one site had a list of drive in movies in Illinois - they are only nine listed.

Here is the web site that has them listed by state.

Brings back a whole lot of memories of stuff I can't repeat here.

                      Thanks for the memories, Cab

                        Old enough? Who, me?

Like Opa, I remember falling asleep in my PJs while my folks watched the second show (At least I think that's what they were doing up in the front seat!)

After I got my license, it was usually a buch of us guys going in the middle of the week with a trunk-full of pop crates. We'd lean the crate against the speaker pole, turn up both speakers and sit on the crate through both movies.

Then there were the Friday or Saturday night with that someone special — when the windows were too steamed up to see the screen...

I remember in high school taking a date to a drive in and hopefully it would be a boring movie. Those were the days of front bench seats...remember them? Good thing they had an intermission with that silly dude stuffing anything and everything in his mouth...remember that. Anyway, the half time () intermission was needed to come up for air...remember that?

                            You came up for air????

Lot of memories of the drive ins, mostly good. last one I was at was the Plaza 21 in Beaufort, SC. It's still listed as operating.

Heck even I remember the drive-in! Don't really emember what movies I saw though. We had one here that burned a while ago. Owner says he will rebuild but he has to find the money first.
