Almost Retired

With 4 children under the age of 5, I'm tired in the morning and re-tired the next day.

I'm about half way to retirement with "only" about 18 years of left. On the plus side, experience has taught me that the next 18 years should go faster than the first. Unfortunately, experience has also taught me that the last couple years will probably seem the longest...

Took early retirement for Soc. Sec. two years ago and sort of semi retired, still doing a bunch of work on apartments I own and occasionally selling some Real Estate (not much these days). Will officially be retired (65) in July. Will still pretty much be doing as I'm doing now.
Biggest difference these days is that it just seems to take longer to get it done than it did a few years ago.
Really enjoying this period right now. LOML get a little mad as she is still working for the next 2 years to get to 65.

Yeah, I'm over the hump now, as well. Only 18 years, 6 months, and 11 days to go... But who's counting? I've got a wedding and 25th anniversary to pay for this year, three more years of a kid in college and 213 more mortgage payments to make, and probably another wedding in the next 5 years... Woohoo!

I'll turn 57 in Sept but my body is just about too shot to continue. I can't keep working much longer but how do I afford to quit? Thinking, thinking...

Full retirement for me is 66, so I have about 8 years to that point, but I will never go that long. I would retire tomorrow if I could afford it. My job really sucks right now, but at 58 there are few opportunities around here for the money I need. I can't wait for that first Monday after I retire, so I can turn off the clock, roll over and sleep in.

According to my FIL, "A good day of retirement is when you get up in the morning with nothing to do and go to bed at night only half done!" He was a very wise man!
It's definately something to look forward to. After nearly 9 years, I've gotten pretty good at it! The best advice anyone gave me was not to make any large life-altering change, such as relocating to another part of the country, etc., for at least a year after retirement. Learn to live in the familar, comfortable environment that you know and then see what changes you want or need to make. Just learning to live with our spouse 'full time' is a big adjustment!
