Way cool! That's a hobby requiring much more time and money than I got, but still fun to watch.

And not to mention co-ordination. Once that thing would get flying anything but directly away from me I'd be too dyslexic to steer it properly. I admire you flyboys!

man that takes some cast iron concentration to be flying such a obviously costly model inverted at a low altitude across the field. One mistake in orientation will pile that beutiful plane into the ground. Not to mention the cool factor of dropping the X-1 rocket plane off in mid flight and firing off the motor.

Thanks for posting that clip. Something that's safer with me watching rather than doing.

I'd be afraid to fly something like that. All the time (and $$$) involved and a klutz at the controls.

That guy has got some guts doing the things he did not only with a beautiful scale ship, but with a beautiful multi-engine scaler! Just keeping all four engines runing and in sync is an accomplishment. The spin and the low inverted pass were insane!

The pilots are quite popular and perform that routine at fun flies all around the country.

There is only one detail that is technically incorrect with the two models, anyone notice? (besides the fact that the X-1 model isn't rocket powered)

Actually, I thought the X-1 was rocket powered. Looked like it had one of those Estes type solid fuel motors. What was the other?

The model was rocket powered, for a second or so.
As for the wrong detail — It looked like it was mounted too far aft on the B-29.

Good eye! the X-1 is mounted into the belly on the "real" B-29, on the model the X-1 is just hooked on the bottom of the wing. I'm sure it is just logistics of the model.

The later "Balls 8" B-52 hung it's launches under its wing.

Some how I missed the rocket part when I watched it the first time.
