    Rant

I was looking for some metal rods, Big Tim suggested he had good luck with metal supermarkets.com and I recall someone else saying they got some metal parts from them.

So I go to the web site and pick out my material using their wizard, then it says want a quote and I say yes. So I fill out my personal info and it takes it. I get an email copy of the quote request generated and sent to the local store. Says I'll have a quote in 24 hours.

So 6 days go by so I call the the guy named on the quote request e-mail
The guy is not there but some associate answers I ask why do i not have my quote and he says there's a good reason why... the don't read their e-mail and therefore don't know when they get e-mailed quote requests.

Is that any way to run a business?

No. Not in this day and age.

Trying to organize a weekend away with two other couples recently, the one guy who has all the special requirements - night owl doesn't rally for morning events, travels so can't get together for planning, special dietary requirements, etc. - is the one who doesn't do email. I've known the guy for 17 years, so I felt comfortable spending a few quiet minutes with him on joining the human race.

Sounds like it is time to take your business elsewhere.

well, it worked great up until a person had to get involved.
If you have associated stores, and want an web presence,
its not too much to ask them to check e-mail once a day.
Or, even have the web site server FAX them quote requests if that's what they work with best.
