    unsolicited WW DVD

    who got an unsolicited Woodworking DVD in the mail...
    from Woodworkers Guild of America.

    They want you to send then $12.95 if you like it, return it if you don't.

    Obviously you don't have to return it or pay for it if you don't want to be bothered, it is unsolicited material.

      It's good that you know you don't have to pay for stuff that gets sent unsolicited. I bet they do make a fair amount of money from people who don't know any better.

          Like me .

          I was sent some such material (not WW-ing) years ago, and I went to great lengths to return it to 'avoid being charged' . I believe I even paid for the shipping after putting it in a nice strong box...

              Almost a catch 22. If you mail it back, they have you listed either as a customer or sucker. On the other hand, if you had some buddy, who doesn't read things all the way through, decide to sign you up.......

              I was "joined" into a woodworking book club, YEARS before I caught the bug this way (I thought things looked neat, but didn't have the $$$$$$$ or time). That took a bit to straighten out.
              She couldn't tell the difference between the escape pod, and the bathroom. We had to go back for her.........................Twice.

                  I received one of these, too. I've not watched it yet, but even if it's crap, I appreciate the gift -- because I'm not subscribing, and I'm not sending it back. The accompanying paperwork suggests that if you return the DVD, they'll send it out to another woodworker. Given how cheaply DVDs can be mass produced, I'm skeptical that would actually happen.

                  Maybe ploys like this -- the recipient being asked to return an unsolicited item -- have been going on for some time, but this is the first one I've ever gotten. I refuse to play. It's bad enough that there are magazine subscription come-ons that look for all the world like an invoice for an already-placed order. I don't want to encourage marketing schemes that place an imaginary "obligation" onto the consumer.

                      I didn't look at it myself but gave it to a lady at work who is just getting started wood working. She seemed to get a good bit of info but I didn't tell her how it got to me so she wouldn't get sucked in.

                          Just keep it and forget about it.. If they were to call or e-mail to send it back, just tell them to send someone to get it. If you keep it.. none of that will happen as stated.. they mass produce and mail. If they have 1 out of 100 send money.. they made a profit. They are banking on those that would worry that if they don't pay for it.. the Sky will fall on them.

                          In the 80's a auto dealership I worked for got about $1000 worth of Body shop supplies with the PO being the Body Shop Mgrs. name.. not a bona-fied PO number. Often in a small dealer-ship, the office manager will pay before they figure out so and so didn't order it. They get the name by simply calling switch-board and asking who is the Body Shop.. etc. manager.

                          I called the company and told them we had it and it was not ordered. They ask us to send it back. I said no... you send one of your scamming reps by to see me personally and pick it up. We kept it six months un-opened in good faith and then used the $1000 worth of supplies in the Body Shop at that point.

                          Life used to be simple and still is if you learn that no all are honest...
