You couldn't pay me to buy an HP PC, so take this for what it's worth. You can get the same or better deal on a Dell from their outlet, with a full one year warranty. Those are refurbs, scratch and dent and previoulsy ordered new.

www.dell4me.com, click on outlet at the top.

Of course, someone will comealong shortly and tell you they could not be paid for a Dell and they only buy HP .

I have been known to work on a hardware problem on a computer. That said, I won't work on any HP. Bill

It may be a good deal if it doesn't have the Maxtor hard drive in it. The last 2 HP's I bought the hard drive went out in a little over a year. The last one lasted 13 months. Both were Maxtors.

Seems like a decent deal to me - I only say decent because I am always wary of reconditioned items. For some reason, I haven't had much success with them.

I have two HP computers - one desktop and one notebook and they have both been great. I have an old Dell that was a nightmare - hence the newer HP sooner than I would have liked. Dell used to be good, but I think they have been slipping recently from what I have read.

I was seriously considering one of those as well, but I bought a Dell from www.dell.com/dfo in very late Dec.

            For $350 (280 + s/h + tax) I got:
            Inspiron 531 Minitower
            AMD x64 5000+ at 2.6GHz (dual core)
            1 GB RAM (2 x 512)
            250 GB SATA 3Gb/s HD
            16x Dual Layer DVD Burner
            DVD-ROM/CD-RW (Can't remember speed)
            Vista Home Premium
ATI Theater 650 Digital TV Tuner w/Remote
            USB Keyboard & Mouse
            Microsoft Works Suite
            Roxio/Sonic CD/DVD Burning Software
            1 Year Warranty

Since I bought it, I swapped the RAM out with 4 GB I got from NewEgg for less than $80, and I put in a XFX GeForce 8500GT PCI-e x16 video card for $100. I did back off Vista & put XP on it. This machine was the 3rd time I tried Vista at home in the past year. It still didn't work. I'm thinking at this point, I will wait for Windows 7 to come out.

One heckuva machine for a little over $500. I was going to build one from scratch, but it would've cost around $1,000 for everything I got.

Long story short, the warranty from Dell and the cost sold me on getting the Dell. It was a nice upgrade from a 4 year old P4 that was going to cost me a couple of hundred just to upgrade the RAM.

I'm in the pro HP boat. I have a desktop and a laptop both from HP and haven't had any issues with either. I am also in the "Never a Dell" boat. Have used tons of them through work and IMO they are crap.

$400 for that one doesn't seem to be too bad of a deal. You may be able to find a similar one in a store with a rebate that would be new but for about the same money. Although because I really hate rebates I would consider buying the one from Buy.com if I were looking for my next pc.
